I heard these around midnight VERY frightening. Semi automatic or whatever, two pops and then a burst. The first time I have felt very unsafe in my house.

I’ve lived in the area for over 20 years, and remember what it USED to be like. I would still like these weapons to not be so freely available, but I also know how the neighborhood has improved.

Woke up to it around midnight. First time in about a month.

When is an official statement going to come out about this. I haven’t heard anyone acknowledge all of the shootings in this vicinity in the last 3-4 months.

This is sadly just the latest in a clear pattern of escalation.SPD fails to keep residents safe despite having orders of magnitude more resources per population than other cities. The impunity criminals enjoy while operating on the green areas of the Longfellow Creek and Greg Davis park has led to this incident and will lead to more and graver incidents. Reporting has proven completely useless too. Shame on the authorities that send several police cars in response to a fender bender, but fail to act to reduce the criminal activity in areas that they know criminal acts are being committed.

What an emotionally inaccurate take. Seattle has far less cops than we should have when compared to other cities. Maybe you should ask Lisa “can’t be bothered to respond” Herbold for some “leadership.”

Sounds like hyperbolic axe grinding. As someone who recently had a WS “fender bender”, I can say that zero police cars were involved. And I don’t see injuries reported very often, thankfully, from these gunfire incidents. If you’d like to help reduce the supply of (often) disaffected youth who are found to be shooting up the streets when they get their hands on a gun, I hope you signed up for the recent call for volunteers to tutor youth once a week and mentor them. THAT would help keep the public safe more than arresting them after the fact. But I suppose blaming the police is easy like popping a pill for an illness instead of doing the long hard work of illness prevention.

    Arrest them!!!!

Although prevention is key. Blaming the youth is quite a stretch! We can only be held accountable for our own youth not the youth of others. And to ignore the current failures within our law enforcement choosing to instead shift blame on individuals who yet to have the mental capacity to fully understand and acknowledge the weight of poor decision making suggest that not even grown adults have a well grounded full mental capacity to weigh in on discussions that they truly are to close minded to see only their own distorted view. Most adults don’t have the luxury to take time away from their paying jobs to volunteer time to tutor other children. We are already more than overwhelmed with keeping our heads above our own waters. Family bills jobs etc. I swear the comment section here is a place where certain individuals choose to come knit pick just for the heck of it. Refusing to see the valid points made in most of many points of view. Yes our youth are running a muck causing chaos with firearms being far to accessible. But anyone who has driven around the city or holds open communication with their neighbors while witnessing an over abundant amount of officers responding for the most simplest mundane calls. A problem that continues to come up amongst adults quite often lately around Seattle. And if you haven’t come to engage in or witness this yourself just leads me to question your ability to even think outside the box of rocks rattling inside your head!

Sorry, comment time is over.
