10:47 PM: Seattle Fire and Police are arriving at 26th/Barton for a report of a person on board a Metro bus with a gunshot wound to the arm. Whether they were shot aboard the bus isn’t clear; police had been on their way to check out a report of shots heard at another location when this call came in.

11:07 PM: Thanks to Regina for the photo. The victim, whose wound is in the forearm, is being taken to Harborview. Meantime, a texter reports they live near Westwood and heard the shots” and adds, “A man who was on the bus told us that the shooter was intoxicated and had been arguing with the victim, then pulled a gun and shot 4 times into the bus. Unclear if the shooter was still on the bus or had exited.”

11:45 PM: They’ve been searching with a K-9 team, and now it appears the Guardian One helicopter is headed this way to help look, too.

3 AM NOTE: No further information tonight; we’re following up later this morning.

ADDED THURSDAY: The King County Sheriff’s Office (which includes Metro Transit Police) is handling the investigation and says there’s nothing additional to report, aside from confirming no one’s been arrested. SFD says the victim is a 26-year-old man, in stable condition when taken to the hospital.

Laying in bed, window 1/2 cracked to let the stylish summer breeze in, I can’t help but thinking, “Some one sure set off the hornets nest”

I recently heard the Prime Minister of Australia talking about how his country hasn’t had any mass shootings since 1996 because within weeks they enacted very strict gun laws, including banning AR-15 style weapons. He also mentioned how gun violence in general has gone way down since then. Of course Australia didn’t have a second amendment to deal with, but they did have bipartisan support for changing their gun laws. Until we elect folks who understand that there are just too many guns on the streets of our country, I fear this blog will just keep having these types of stories.

Is that the C line or the 21 they were on?

This is frustrating. SDOT re works roadways to add bike lanes. Builders get to build 40 unit buildings with no parking. All to have people use public transit. King county doesn’t provide adequate safety to their busses. And I don’t really want to wait at a garbage filled bus stop. Frustrating.

“all to have people use public transit”…..gee, must be horrible seeing people live their lives not like you want them to

I hope all you commenters with info gave it to the police before typing it here, cause it does no good if not.

Looking at some of the criminality which takes place in the 2500 to 2800 blocks of Barton that shows up on the southwest precinct SPD twitter , I’ve been leaning toward not taking the bus from and back to Westwood Village.  This pretty much seals the deal in the absence of any police protection in the buses and the surrounding mall area.

I have been in West Seattle less than a year and already experienced two shooting incidents and 3 stabbing incidents at bus stops.  Not to mention many weirdo drug addict incidents on the bus.  Is this the norm?   Really bad here.  Anyways, I am starting to use my car more and more.   Public transportation belongs to them.

    • A local August 5, 2022 (1:57 am)

Theres weirdos and drug addicts on the bus in every major city ive ever used public transit in, and thats a lot of places. Weirdos and addicts have places to go too and most of them arent in a position to own a vehicle. I really dont care whos on the bus as long as they mind their own business and arent disruptive to others. As far as the shootings – no. Ive used that stop for years and never seen someone pull a gun. Downtown makes me feel way less safe and sketched than anywhere in White Center.

Sorry, comment time is over.
