BIZNOTE: Dué Cucina expanding into former West Seattle Ma’ono space

Four weeks after confirmation that the original Ma’ono in West Seattle had been permanently closed and sold, we know what’s moving into the space: Italian food. We’ve confirmed that Dué Cucina will open its fourth location at 4437 California SW. Dué Cucina specializes in “authentic Italian cuisine,” centered on pasta – its founders are both from Tuscany; you can see the menu here. Its three restaurants are on Capitol Hill, in Roosevelt, and in Kirkland. In our brief conversation with co-founder Davide Macchi this afternoon, he told us they just got the keys to the space and don’t know yet how long it will take to get ready to open. They’re hoping it’ll be this fall.

OH MY GOD BEST NEWS EVER!! I even wrote to them on Instagram begging them to come up WSea. This place is fabulous, we’re very lucky!

Looks good… quality family restaurant… Kids can eat there… Previous place not so much…  Need kids menu to survive in the junction for the most part… 17 dollar cheeseburgers not so much… They were the first to charge that pre inflation times…. Great cheeseburger… but look where that got them… mostly empty restaurant pre-Covid too.

To be fair, the Springhill Burger was a top Seattle burger (in the gormet department).

Sad to see Ma’ono leave, but excited that something new is opening so quickly! Looking forward to trying Due Cucina.

Italian, centered on pasta. Hmm, sounds a lot like Raccolto practically next door. Dueling pastas. Carb it up, West Seattle! Maybe they have Merlot?

    • Sue H August 4, 2022 (9:37 am)

Very different menus, and Due Cucina is half the price of Raccolto from the looks of the menu. I think there’s a place for both, and don’t think they’ll hurt each other. The new one looks to be more of a family restaurant where I’d look at something like Raccolto for date night or something more upscale.

So pumped, this place is great!

They ought to rename West Seattle ‘Little Italy’ with all the Italian restaurants around (Raccolto, La Rustica, Miosposto, all the pizzerias, etc). Sad to see Ma’ono go, but I’ll definitely give the new place a try when they open their doors. I’d love to see more ethnic food options in West Seattle. I’ll probably feel different if and when the bridge reopens as CID will be a short drive or bus ride away.

“Authentic Italian cuisine.” Sounds like code for “pizza.” Which is really great, we could use some more pizza places here in West Seattle: America’s Barren Pizza Desert.

    • Sue H August 4, 2022 (9:39 am)

      They don’t even sell pizza.

  • Seaview August 3, 2022 (10:46 pm)

For those complaining about too many Italian restaurants or assuming this means another pizza restaurant, do look at their menu. I love Raccolto but for me, it’s a splurge. Due Cucina looks like a great everyday option for good pasta.

California is full of Italian. We have four? Pizza places last I counted. Will miss maono because it was one place I could eat w a gluten allergy when pizza is not the same. Hope for more unique options soon!

    • Dot August 4, 2022 (2:24 pm)

They have a gluten free pasta option! :) and they don’t even make pizza. ;)

Sorry, comment time is over.
