WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Bullets break dishes as gunfire pierces Alki home

If you’re in the Alki area and thought you heard gunfire around midnight, neighbors discovered this morning that you indeed did. Some of it even pierced the walls of a home.

That photo is from Linda, who discovered the damage inside her home – about two blocks east of Alki Playfield – after a neighbor found a bullet casing on the street nearby and texted everyone on the block about it.

Linda subsequently found the broken dishes but didn’t initially connect the two, wondering if there had been an earthquake. She showed her husband, “and he could see the round entry hole from the bullet, so we dashed outside and found three bullet holes in our home’s siding. One went into that cabinet, the second went into a closet, ricocheted around, and then blew out and landed in our living room. The third is apparently lost in the rafters above the ceiling.”

They called 911 and police responded. “They collected the bullets, the bullet casing Anne found, then looked around and located the other two on the other side of the street.” The officer speculated that “the shooters were driving uphill and fired indiscriminately. According to him, this happens a lot, with people shooting guns without targets and not really caring what or whom they hit. One of our neighbors remembered hearing the noise just after midnight, and apparently someone else had called in gunfire to 911 at 12:17 am so he thought it was the same incident.” Police urged them (as we always do if someone texts us about suspected gunfire) to always call 911, even if you’re not sure what you heard.

Linda concludes, “I had managed to convince myself that this kind of incident was typically between people/groups who knew each other and were up to no good, so it’s a bit of a shock to find out that isn’t so.”

    Is that .45 cal brass?

Many times these types of shootings are criminals in one vehicle shooting at rivals in another. They miss and their shots go into homes, other cars, or worse. This is yet one more reason why ANY attempt from lawmakers in our State Legislature to reduce the penalties/sentencing for drive-by shootings needs to be fought against vigorously.

Wow that is scary and stupid ( of the shooters). So glad the bullets didn’t hit people.

People who carry guns are always looking for any excuse to shoot them, they do not care at all about the damage they do or the lives they ruin, they love the violence, they love the death.

    Repeal 2A

    • Adam June 22, 2022 (9:38 pm)

That only removes guns from law abiding ppl, not criminals. If they’re willing to shoot indiscriminately, I doubt they’ll hand those guns over if we repeal the 2nd amendment.

Repeal 2A?  Easy peasy.  Just get Pramila Jayapal to write an amendment repeal resolution, get at least 289 other representatives and 38 senators to approve it, then get 38 states to ratify.  Then what happens? Congress is free to pass a federal law outlawing firearms except for police and military. Then approve massive spending increases for: A) Tracking down, collecting and disposing existing guns, ammo, and tooling. B) Hugely increased border and internal security to prevent new guns being imported and trafficked. C) Orwellian surveillance of anyone with the skills and/or equipment capable of arms design and manufacture.  Will that result in a massive decrease in gun violence? I don’t know. How did prohibition work when we tried it with alcohol and drugs?

No.  We live in far too violent a society to ask me and others to disarm ourselves.  I’m not asking you to pay more taxes to expand a law enforcement apparatus for my benefit,  but I demand the right to protect myself, irregardless of others who abuse that right.  There was another stabbing in my old neighborhood recently.  An individual walked into the Encino Hospital, blocks from my old crib,  and stabbed a doctor and several nurses. Who knows if this could have been prevented by someone with a firearm.

What a shock indeed! But with so many absolute idiots out there with guns this is not so surprising.  Really dangerous and shameful behavior!  And the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun – what a bunch of total garbage!

    • Adam June 22, 2022 (9:48 pm)

Pretty sure any one of those dozens of cops in Uvalde could’ve been a good guy and taken out that bad guy with a gun. In fact, that’s exactly what happened. Sadly they were an hour and twenty mins too late. But after the failure of allowing someone to have a gun when they clearly shouldn’t, unfortunately you end up with situations where virtually nothing but a gun or other violent means will stop someone.  There’s nothing magical about an object like a gun. There are however very big differences between all of us and many shouldn’t be able to own them. That’s where the outrage should be placed in my opinion.

      • Lagartija Nick June 23, 2022 (9:46 am)

The Uvalde cops did NOT take out that shooter, US Border Patrol did. So in the end not a single one of those Uvalde cops were a “good guy with a gun”. Your facts are wrong.

  • Ferns June 23, 2022 (12:58 am)

So sorry, Linda. That’s very disturbing.

Good guys with a gun is an absurd myth.  We’ve TRIED that, done the experiment in real life, it doesn’t work, at all.  America has more guns in the hands of citizens than any other 1st world nation, and yet, we have more gun shootings/deaths.  Not by a little, but by an order of magnitude, no one is even CLOSE to use, not even little (except for actual war zones).  Texas esp has the ultimate good guys with guns, yet they do NOT have less murders and mass shootings than any place else.  If allowing easy access to guns stopped the bad guys (re: Texas and most of America) then we would have the LEAST school shootings, the LEAST gun murders than any other 1st world nation.  But we have BY FAR the most.  It’s literally the OPPOSITE of “good guys with a gun stop bad guys with a gun”…the REALITY played out in America is that it makes it far worse.  Doesn’t matter what you BELIEVE, or want to be true, facts are facts. We have the most easily accessible guns of any nation, and have the MOST mass shootings and gun deaths by a large margin.  Huh.  Can’t imagine why…a country with a “low tax” craze, NO national mental health care system, and an endless supply of guns.  WHO KNEW that could be a problem!  :/And exactly how is “good guys with a gun”(tm Fox News) supposed to stop someone from shooting your house in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT while you’re asleep  (sigh)

So sad. Can’t wait to leave this country forever.

    • Skeptic June 23, 2022 (5:14 pm)

Agreed.  It’s a horrible country with no redeeming qualities. You should leave immediately.

Drive by shootings need to be treated as domestic terrorism, with prosecution of the crime being life in prison.

  • BigB June 23, 2022 (11:36 pm)

These hooligans could easily be caught with more closed circuit video cameras and drone patrols.

Sorry, comment time is over.
