WEST SEATTLE SUNSET: ‘Sky on fire’

We can’t let Wednesday go without a few of the photos sent to us after the blazingly bright sunset, spectacular whether you had a view across the water as did James Bratsanos (above) or across a hill (Charlestown) as did Greg Snyder (below):

Greg called it a “sky on fire.” The colors even spread to the east, as shown in Carolyn Newman‘s photo:

Thanks, I knew there’d be a slew of photos. I only got a glimpse as I left the office for the bus. Pretty soon I won’t be commuting in darkness.

This sunset was surely intended to be the farewell goodbye to a life well lived by a lifelong Seattle resident, Ken Nelson…who at the age of 101 passed away in his sleep Monday night. His dearest wife Barbara preceded him in death ( 2003) as she had been a native to West Seattle as growing up there and also returning to teach 5th grade at Cooper Elementary on Delridge. They both attended the UW and Ken saw action in WW2 and Korea as an officer in the Navy aboard the USS Faragut.There is an old Nordic saying that a beautiful sunset which follows a death is a sure sign of God’s love for that person…well, Wednesday night’s sunset was exactly that.
