WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Food-delivery driver carjacked

As noted in our update on last night’s cannabis-store robbery, police said on of the suspects matched the description of a West Seattle carjacking 20 minutes earlier. We’ve obtained the police-report narrative on that incident. Police say an Uber Eats driver told them he was picking up an order at a restaurant in the 6500 block of 35th SW around 7:50 pm when two men approached him “walking toward his vehicle very fast.” One pulled out a “black Glock-style handgun and held it at waist level, aiming it directly at” the victim and telling him “give me your keys.” The keys were already in the car, which was running, so the victim gave the robbers his money clip. They got into the car and drove away southbound on 35th SW. Three things missing in the information we obtained: The report does not identify the restaurant (Grillbird is the only one in that area). The report also does not describe the car – we heard it mentioned on police radio as a white Acura – nor the robbers, aside from the possible link to the store holdup 20 minutes later. If you have any tips, the police incident # to refer to is 22-009805.

This is terrifying – I pick up food from grillbird all the time with my family.

And so do we – just a few hours earlier, in fact. But this isn’t about where it happened, but that it happened. Carjackings are relatively rare in our area – last armed carjacking reported in WS was a half-year ago. – TR

TracyR, Before the July incident you linked, when was the last carjacking before that?  Was there even one a year in the last 5 or ten years? Also, I guess the woman whose car was commandeered in the Whole Foods garage doesn’t count as carjacking?

Your article from the armed robbery yesterday mentioned a carjacking at 35th & Morgan, too? Seems like an awful lot of activity withing the last few days

That’s the one this story is about, not a separate incident.

I had someone knocking on my door at 3 am (highpoint area) some weeks ago claiming to be a victim of an attempted car jacking. Had the police come pick the dude up. Guess it didn’t make the news? That one the guy thought the robbers baited him, so different scenario. Either way, stay vigilant…

I had an attempted car jacking at that exact same intersection. At the stop light,  saw him coming and locked my door just before he grabbed the handle.I couldn’t see his other hand so I took off on the red light.I feel bad for the Uber Eats driver.  I hope he is ok and not in too muchshock. Taking his car affects his ability to make a living. Someone needs their you-know-whats cut off.

I was car-jacked 29 years ago at 35th SW and Holden by police-impersonators, so I know how terrifying and confusing it can be. All 4 suspects were caught thanks to SPD stationing patrol cars on every arterial leading out of the peninsula.

Ha ha, it would be even easier these days to road block every arterial getting out of West Seattle these days

They were caught (all 4 of them) trying to steal another escape car near California Ave. Alert homeowners saw them breaking into a parked car and SPD nabbed the theft in-progress. Had they been successful, they would’ve easily gotten away as I reported their distinctive grey Oldsmobile Delta 88 to 911 an hour earlier.

Hopefully the new Mayor will take this uptick in crime across the city over the last few years seriously and do as much as he can in his power to slow it down and eventually stop it… It’s multi faceted problem with KC prosecutors office preferring to be soft on crime and the courts/judges giving no jail time but a slap on the wrist even for repeat felony offenses. The time is now to be tough on all crime from felonies to misdemeanors and especially harsh jail sentences for any and all repeat offenders. Our city deserves better than what we have with dangerous crime on the rise. Stay vigilant and stay safe out there even during the day and watch out for eachother best we can. Hopefully SPD feel the support of the new mayor and that’ll be a start to higher morale, Seattle attracting decent highly qualified officers and then not only quick response times for all calls but a proactive approach to stopping crime before it occurs. I hope Orgins hires an armed guard at the door in the mean time as this is the 2nd marijuana shop armed robbery in WS within the last 12months.

Bruce was on the council for 13 year, leaving 2 years ago.

Our city council will be the issue and blockade to truly reducing the crime throughout our city unless they change their approach drastically. We need KC Prosecutor Satterburg out ASAP & most importantly we need superior court judges who will hold criminals fully accountable to the law and lock em up especially repeat offenders that often times get a slap on the wrist. If Seattle becomes a tough on crime city the criminals will move elsewhere…

I hate to tell everyone, but the gang crud has moved into west seattle again. Like in the eighties. They need to staff the west seattle precinct again with a gang unit from SPD. You can see them operating all over west seattle again in the crime stats and types of crimes. They congregate at that intersection alot.

Sorry, comment time is over.
