TRAFFIC, WEATHER, TRANSIT: Wednesday watch, with another pothole alert

6:27 AM Good morning!

WEATHER

Even warmer today, according to the forecast – which predicts rain and a high in the mid-to-upper 50s.

POTHOLE ALERT

We featured a few on Monday and Tuesday. For today, another report, from Ellie;

Coming along East Marginal Way toward the bridge … there are some wicked potholes. I was in the center lane and around Lucile (maybe a little further North) saw the car ahead swerve and then saw potholes but I had cars either side of me so kept on course. That resulted in two flat tires – I made it to the Jack in the Box parking lot which seemed the safest place to go and over the next hour when waiting for a tow truck saw at least four other cars (all sedans) come in with flat tires. Wish that I had swerved too but it was thick traffic and didn’t feel safe to do so. Wanted to pass along in case it’s helpful for other commuters!

Here’s how to report potholes.

Trouble on the streets/paths/bridges/water? Please let us know – text (but not if you’re driving!) 206-293-6302.

    We lost a tire in the one at orchard/ dumar last nite. Particularly unexpected on that slow curve. ironically I had reported this one a few weeks ago already!

    Beware:  Eastbound. As you leave the Admiral SW ramp and go under the bridge, the road is full of ruts and potholes. Why this is not immediately fixed is beyond me.

    Confirming as of about 8am Highland Park Way is still one lane each direction in the slide area.

    For the link/info on reporting potholes that only goes to a city web form – about a week ago I hit a terrible one on Sylvan Way.  I knew about calling 206 684-ROAD and did so while pulled into the Home Depot in case my wheel had fallen off.   Even at 6:30 am there’s a dispatcher who took a quick report after I dialed 1 (after some recorded messages).  I’ve found that when I really want to let a human at SDOT know of something urgent this works pretty well.  One step less than calling 911 or nearly useless non-emergency SPD/SFD number given all the voice prompts last I tried that.  When calling 684-ROAD I knew/know that SDOT has thousands of similar potholes so it wasn’t like I was expecting instant fix but for really dangerous holes I like to call in.

      206-386-1218 is the after-hours dispatch for major road hazards among other things.

    WSB. SDOT has moved the W Marginal/Highland Park 1 camera to show more of the uphill HP. It should be a bit to the north to show more of W Marginal.

    I used the Find It Fix it app today for a monster pothole by our house. The app worked great,  I parked right next to it and filed the report.  Now hopefully it will be filled in soon.

Sorry, comment time is over.
