UPDATE: 1 arrested in stabbing near southeast West Seattle gas station

1:43 AM: SPD and SFD have sent a sizable response to the gas station/mini-mart in the 7800 block of Detroit SW [map] after a reported stabbing. No word yet on the severity of the victim’s injuries. Dispatch told officers the suspect claimed it was a self-defense situation; they’ve radioed in that they are talking with him now.

9:27 AM: No additional details from police yet, but SFD reports treating a 56-year-old man who was in stable condition and then is reported to have gone to a hospital in a “private vehicle.”

12:31 PM: From SPD:

One man was stabbed early Tuesday following a dispute between a landlord and tenant in a rented motorhome … Around 1:30 AM, the landlord called police and said he’d been stabbed near Detroit Ave Southwest & 1st Ave Southwest.

The tenant had also called 911 and claimed he had stabbed the victim in self-defense during a dispute.

Officers found the victim, who was bleeding from his abdomen, and learned he had gone to the motorhome to contact the tenant, who had allegedly changed the locks and stopped paying rent.

The victim had asked to be let inside, had asked to use the bathroom, and then emerged to find the suspect armed with a knife. The tenant then stabbed him.

The tenant told police he believed the victim had previously stolen several hundred dollars worth of items from the motorhome and thrown water on his bed.

Officers arrested the tenant and booked him into the King County Jail.

Wonder which one it is. There was a burnt out trailer sitting there for weeks.  This city is so sad……RVs have been allowed here since about 2016.

What kind of landlord is checking on his tenants at 1:30am? I’m believing the self-defense story here

Great question!  Also what kind of city allows “landlords” to rent out RVs without proper water and sanitation hook-ups?  As soon as he’s healed, they should arrest him too.

Maybe the kind of landlord that rents out rundown RV’s to people along the side of a city street. This does not sound like a typical “landlord” renting out a house or apartment.

So the crappy motorhome, parked by the side of the road, is being rented to someone to live in? And it has a working septic system (i.e. holding tank) that must be pumped or dumped every few days? Curious where the nearest dump station is and when it was last dumped. Sorry the person got stabbed, don’t get me wrong. Is the landlord registered with the city of Seattle, and was the tenant provided the required notices and working smoke and Carbon monoxide alarms that the landlord must provide? I just think it’s bogus that people aquire clapped out motorhomes and then rent them to “the less fortunate” without really providing a legal and safe living situation.

City of Seattle sends a pump truck to empty the waste fluid from these residential RVs that can no longer run….city services to keep the environment clean….

Outstanding! Finally something about the junk RV rash on our city that makes sense.

Rented RV?  Does that include the parking spot?

Has this crisis led to a whole new level of slum lording?

  • Truth January 4, 2022 (6:35 pm)

Legit landlords are buried with regulations. Yet these RV owners, that buy them out of tow auctions and then rent them to homeless folks are the worst.  The city has created and sanctioned this bs by their policies (or lack of policies) to allow these folks to be further victimized in the name of compassion.  These are dangerous for everyone involved. That “tenant” seems like they may need some treatment that they will not get in that RV……

Landlord? Does the person have the RV on his own property or is he stealing public property THEN renting out the RV? Good grief.

Crime and property damage is rampant in that area. Businesses are moving away because nothing is being done. I heard that MacDonald Miller is leaving because the area has become so unsafe. I work for a company located in this area. We have our fences and gates cut open all the time. One weekend we had 5 holes cut and 2 gates cut open. Slurry Solutions had $100K in damage done to their processing equipment. Kone Cranes is moving out of our building because the area has become unsafe. Anything not welded in place will be taken or destroyed.

Sorry, comment time is over.
