BIZNOTE: Café Mia closes in The Junction

Thanks for the tip. Another Junction restaurant closure – Café Mia at 4317 SW Oregon. Its namesake proprietor announced that last Sunday was the bistro’s final day of operation – in that location. She said she had decided to close as her lease neared its end, but that she plans to reopen elsewhere, “probably not” in West Seattle. Café Mia had been in the space for four years, best known for brunch. (P.S. If you’re wondering about the photo, the handwritten info on the door is the menu, not a farewell note.)

I really liked this place, but they were never reliably open since COVID. Or, always seemed closed when I happened by.

Love this space and enjoyed the food when they were there. I agree about inconsistent hours. Sonetimes the popular dishes would be sold out, just as you had your taste buds set for their food or coffee. One time the espresso machine was out of operation. I can’t drink drip coffee, so it was disappointing but not the deciding factor for a visit. Wish Mia well. The past owners were awesome. Wish they would return, but this business is difficult right now. Please keep this space open for breakfast, as it is sorely needed in W.S.

  It’s a pertinent comment because it’s hard to go try a place if you don’t even know that it exists. There have been so many small local places that have come and gone that I would have enjoyed trying but I wasn’t even aware of them in the first place. There’s a reason why advertising is a thing.

Probably for the best. We tried to eat there multiple times, and it was always 1hr+ wait for food.

  It was 45 minutes before we even received our coffees, while we watched several tables give up on their food and walk off. Their branding was off…maybe less of a cafe, and more a “gourmet breakfast spot?” could’ve worked.

We tried it once on a beautiful afternoon. We stood at the counter where a man was teaching a younger woman how to use the espresso machine. No greeting. We continue to stand and wait. A woman bursts in from outside saying, “It’s such a beautiful day, should I leave the door open?” They ignore her. She looks confused, waits and leaves. We leave. We never returned.

Sad to see it go. They served amazing food and took a lot of pride in every dish that was served. Biscuits and gravy were amazing! Service was slow as the chef made everything to order. Quality food after a long wait is far better than half-ass entrees coming out too soon. They let you know the wait would be long every time you ordered. I see no problem in that. Very very very talented chef/owner. She deserves more than west seattle would give.

If I was a restaurant owner, just reading the mostly entitled and rude comments on this blog every time a restaurant opens or closes in West Seattle would convince me to look for another neighborhood.

it’s a restaurant – it’s not unreasonable to expect them to have food ready for pickup by their estimated time frame, or even answer the phone to take orders. they made great food but their customer service was lacking.

  I have to agree with you. The service here was just lacking. And I don’t mean people were rude. It was almost absent minded and aloof. Like the staff hadn’t been trained properly. I can’t imagine what it must be like to run a food business in a pandemic but I certainly hope the personnel problems get worked out because the food was good.

Customers calling out problems they’ve encountered at any establishment is not “negative comments.” If owners do not address their clientele’s concerns or complaints and do not make changes accordingly, they are setting themselves up for failure. It’s not unreasonable to complain about poor service, long wait times, and running out of food. I hope Cafe Mia finds a new home not too far from West Seattle.

They will be missed. My favorite place for brunch. They always greeted me by name and followed up with questions from discussions at prior visits. Quality people and food.
