WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Building burglarized again; car prowler

Two reader reports in West Seattle Crime Watch tonight:

BUILDING BURGLARY: From Rachel on Harbor Avenue SW:

A very experienced and familiar with our building man broke into our building around 1 AM Friday morning 9/3 and then broke into our storage unit and stole my inflatable paddle board, gas fire pit and Kelty Cabin 6 Tent.

I have pictures of the items stolen attached and also some pictures from the security camera of the man. Biggest characteristic are his red shoes. This man is a pro as he was in and out within 15 min and could get into locked doors no problem and from the way he knew exactly where to go without wondering around we are thinking he has been here before, cased the place or is a worker in the area. This is the third burglary we have had within the month.

NORTH ADMIRAL CAR PROWLER: From Trudy:

My partner saw a suspicious person attempting to open multiple car doors at around 5 am this Sunday morning while taking our dog to the bathroom outside. The incident took place 44th Avenue SW and SW Atlantic St.

My partner yelled out to the individual, who then walked off quickly. A white male, around 5’11″, in a large hooded jacket. Upon turning the corner my partner could see there was a second male,. also of similar appearance. They both took off on foot quickly.

They likely may have broken into cars in that area.

We all think Admiral is a quiet and safe part of West Seattle and we often forget that isn’t the case if untoward people are around. If you could, please publish this incident to ensure people are aware, and to ensure they don’t leave valuables or their cars unlocked.

One more: A heavyset woman between 5-9 and 6 ft. tried to yank my groceries from my hands across from Met Market around 2 p.m. today (northwest side of the intersection). I was able to fend her off with only a bloodied knee, palm, and chin, but no serious injuries. A very thoughtful and kind woman stopped to help me find my glasses and offered me a ride home. I had seen my attacker try to buy groceries earlier at Metro but I think the card she was using had been rejected at which point she started yelling complaints that I couldn’t make out.  I worry about our older neighbors who wouldn’t be able to fend off this kind of attack and could be ,more seriously hurt.

I wonder if it’s the homeless woman who is living in the rocks near the playground in hiawatha. She was staring at me for over 20 min the other day while my kids played on the playground. She seems on the younger side, about mid 20s, short light hair, heavier set.

Sorry this happened. Did you report to the police? It’s important to do so even after the incident. Also, let Met Mart mgmt know.

Please report to police, please report to Metropolitan Market, please please please call and email council person Lisa Herbold, council president Lorena Gonzalez and Mayor Jenny Durkin with details of the attack.

I am so sorry that happened to you. So infuriating the audacity these people have.

If that description sounds like the attacker it would be good info to pass on to the police,  and do a followup ID confirmation since she may be able to be located  at her site in Hiawatha. Intervention could prevent another encounter.  I know resources are scarce, but this might be a person who could be directed to shelter.

RT: I noted the Hiawatha information in the police report .

Please vote for Ann Davison for Seattle City Attorney.  These assaults and property crimes in our neighborhoods won’t stop unless our elected officials enforce the laws and ordinances.  Ann’s Abolitionist opponent has stated that she will allow “minor” crimes to occur without punishment to the criminal.  You make our environment safer with your choice at the ballot box.

    • Oakley34 September 13, 2021 (11:37 am)

      No.

    • Michael Ostrogorsky September 13, 2021 (12:47 pm)

Assault is NOT a minor crime. Geez.

      • Medium September 13, 2021 (3:34 pm)

Assault is a misdemeanor. One of the candidate’s platform is to defund police and stop prosecuting most misdemeanors. “The City Attorney’s office prosecutes only misdemeanors, which are, by definition, low level crime.” The abolitionist candidate said it, not me.

          First-degree assault is a felony.
          Second-degree assault is a felony.
          Third-degree assault is a felony.
Fourth-degree assault is a gross misdemeanor. You can read the various discussions in the RCW here:

Agreed.   If I’m robbed, I don’t particularly care what the motivation for the robbery was.   If the city would deal with the encampments that are OBVIOUS collections of stolen property, they might find there was more sympathy for the genuinely hard up.

    • Medium September 13, 2021 (3:07 pm)

Exactly right. The City Attorney is an elected position and will make a huge difference on the safety in Seattle.

    • Jay September 13, 2021 (4:07 pm)

Ann Davidson is a populist candidate who makes empty statements on crime without actually understanding what the job entails. The crimes described in this story and comment section would be way outside her authority. Burglary and robbery are both felonies, which the city attorney has no authority over. This empty “tough on crime” campaign is dangerous and will only make the city’s problems worse. And it’s making our population less informed.

  • My two cents … September 13, 2021 (11:01 am)

Events like these seem to be quite common now, more so than 3, 5 years ago. I’m not certain how many of these get officially reported and tallied. Regardless, this is another reason why I am voting to change up the current slate of council members- their approach does not seem to be working to create a safe community for all.

  • ITotallyAgreeWithYou September 13, 2021 (11:20 am)

Onion, is it the same person pictured in Emma’s post regarding another N. Admiral incident in the comments of the “Update 3-alarm fire” article? If so, it could be very helpful to report your experience to the police.

  • Alex S. September 13, 2021 (11:59 am)

Watch OfferUp for those stolen items to appear soon – its a haven for thieves who no longer face any consequences for their crimes in Seattle.  Sometimes items will be posted in sections other than “Sports & Outdoors”

I just looked up Itotallyagreewithyou’s cross reference and I’d say there is a fairly strong resemblance   Here is the ring photo. https://neighbors.ring.com/n/zblW7defRZMy police report is 21-240567.

The person in this video does not look heavy set though. Did I mis-read that?

Sorry, comment time is over.
