Lower Spokane bridge has opened twice in the past half hour.

This is the third time in a week and a half where I am at risk of being late to work due to slow moving boats rendering the low bridge useless during rush hour. I know they have the right of way but I am already leaving 20 minutes early to add time for them and I still barley make it on time. Or I end up 30 minutes early to work if the bridge is fine. It’s so frustrating. I wish something could be done.

This is a drawback of living on a peninsula, be it here or anywhere else.

True story, Reed. I guess those people didn’t live here when there was only the low bridge and we were all subject to its seemingly whimsical openings. Or when the low bridge was rammed and everyone had to detour to the south. It’s all inconvenient and it’s going to continue to be inconvenient until the high bridge opens again. Heavy sigh.

Anyone that chooses  to take a drawbridge -for whatever reason better know it can open pretty much at any time & lots of marine traffic consist of slow moving boats/ships.

I got caught this morning and now just caught again coming home. I will now miss my very tight window to drink anything during the last hour before Yom Kippur starts because I will be on a bus the whole time. If I had literally any other way to get to and from work that didn’t involve the low bridge I would take it. Some of us have no choice!

Morning, All, Still no word on why the South Park Bridge camera is still pointing east?

  • Al King September 15, 2021 (4:36 pm)

Auntie. There were 2 low spans. When the bridge was hit traffic was diverted to the other-2 lanes each way. Note, as a 2nd generation WS res used the low bridge as well as my dad did. NEVER had any issues getting out of WS. Also note we emptied onto Harbor Island an cotended with trains.

    • Auntie September 15, 2021 (7:52 pm)

I remember waiting for many a boat/barge to get out or back into WS. And trains.

Sorry, comment time is over.
