During the mid-morning hours, a fight disturbance occurred in an encampment near SW Michigan St / SW Peninsula Pl. The fight was reportedly over narcotics and money. A few hours later, witnesses reported a large group of subjects arrived at the encampment looking for those involved in the fight. The group left a short time later. Just prior to (2 pm), a vehicle arrived, and four suspects exited. They approached the victim’s tent carrying a shotgun and edged weapons and confronted the victim. After a brief encounter, one of the suspects fired the shotgun twice, striking the victim on the right leg just below the knee. The suspects then fled the scene and left in the vehicle they had arrived in. Witnesses called 911 and requested police assistance while others began tending to the victim’s injury and loaded him into a vehicle. Officers arrived, located the victim and secured the scene while requesting SFD response. The victim was transported to HMC for further medical treatment. An area search was conduced with negative results for the suspects.

There have been multiple of these incidents in that area reported on here it seems. Time to clean it up and clear out the obvious riff raff

What will it take for the city to actually realize that allowing/condoning people living in tents all over is not a good idea and is t safe – for anyone? Also, drugs are the major issue here, not affordability or being “poor” – drugs.

I’m glad you realize it isn’t a sustainable way anybody should be living. Drugs and addiction are simply a symptom of the bigger issue that’s at hand. People with conventional homes can do drugs too. Just within the comfort of their own home. The issue is inaccessibility to resources and a support system. It’s a mental health crisis more than it is a “drug problem”

        NONSENSE.

Do you think it will suddenly change if housed in a multi unit complex?  Drugs, money and guns run together.

    “poor” nice.

Ohboy. You are correct. The problem is that NOBODY is volunteering to have a treatment facility next door to them. NOBODY is demanding their taxes be raised to pay for all the free treatment. And NOBODY has said there are actually enough people to work at these facilities.  And i have to add that WHERE are these peoples families and friends???? While not having a legal responsibility  don’t they have a moral and ethical duty to be taking care of these people???? What does letting people “dump” their “unwanted” family/friends say about them???

Funny how most of the crime in this city is related to the camps. Yet the uber-liberal folks just want to hug them. Giving them housing won’t make the crime stop, we need mental health support and/or repercussions.

Sorry, comment time is over.
