SCHOOLS: Dr. Brent Jones begins work as interim Seattle district superintendent

Dr. Brent Jones is now officially on the job as interim Seattle Public Schools superintendent, following Denise Juneau‘s decision to depart early, after just under three years. Dr. Jones is expected to lead the district for 14 months, while a permanent superintendent is sought. As noted here in January, when the School Board began considering him for the $315,000/year interim job, Dr. Jones was the district’s Chief Equity, Partnerships and Engagement Officer for three and a half years, until June 2019 and after that worked as an assistant general manager at Metro. You can read more about him on the district website.

His email to parents mentions “As the district plans for a full-time return to school this fall …”

With the newest CDC guidelines of 3ft, that makes return to “regular” school with masks probable. Thankfully vaccines for middle schoolers are coming soon, since Madison’s building seems to have air issues. I wonder how many air purifiers SPS has had to purchase to make the older building have adequate air flow in the rooms?

Frog – I caught that as well.  The first indication that students and parents can return to a somewhat normal schedule come September.

I saw that as well, but then someone pointed out he did not say in-person. He said full-time return to school, but that isn’t a commitment that those full-time hours be in-person. Unclear whether that was the intent or not.

Also  keep in mind that the school district announced several return to in-person dates without reaching an agreement with the teachers’ union or clear protocol and policies laid out so even if this is their plan there is a lot that has to happen to make it a reality.

$315K job?  I definitely picked the wrong occupation.

Sorry, comment time is over.
