WEST SEATTLE BIRDS: Pelicans over Alki

Another unusual flyby reported over Alki tonight. Last night, military helicopters – tonight, Pelicans! Brittany sent the photo taken by her husband Jeffrey; we believe these are American White Pelicans.

The last sighting for which we received photos/reports was in November 2013.

Yay!!! My birds! Wonder if the strong winds blew them off course.

Where should they be?  If they are off course, I am glad they have each other!

These pelicans are more common near inland fresh water. If you click the species name above, it’ll take you to the Seattle Audubon link (BirdWeb) with info on its range and more (we always link first references of bird species names to the corresponding page on that site).

White pelicans were above Seattle last year as well. Here are some photos: https://twitter.com/CT_Bergstrom/status/1298352592074862592

I saw one a few weeks ago, I wonder why they are here?

They are delivering all those unplanned babies made during the shutdown. Reduce the population! Be a responsible human.
