EARTH DAY 2021: Seen around West Seattle

It’s Earth Day! As announced last week, the Care for Creation teams at Holy Rosary and Our Lady of Guadalupe again invited West Seattleites to display signs in honor of the occasion. Here are photos we’ve received so far – above and below, Terry Blumer and grandson Asher carried on their tradition: “We decided to go big this year! Go big or go home, right?”

That’s at Atlantic and 44th in North Admiral. There are also simple signs in yards, like this one put up by Lucy Johnson:

And Vince Stricherz, who sent us the invitation, recycled (of course!) this sign from last year:

ADDED: Debbie texted this photo, reporting it’s on the west side of Hiawatha Playfield:

ADDED: Texted from Sylvan Way:

Anybody else? We’ll add any photos we get – westseattleblog@gmail.com or text to 206-293-6302 – thank you!

This Earth Day I hope that Seattle residents will begin to acknowledge that their personal automobile driving addiction is the single greatest contribution to carbon emissions in the city. It’s true: emissions from driving are our single greatest source of CO2, which is destroying our planet. Not only that, but rubber from car tires is a major contributor to killing our beloved salmon. The single greatest thing Seattle residents can do to save our planet is to drastically reduce our dependence on personal automobile transportation.

Jort. What, if anything are YOU actually doing to get rid of cars other than  anonymously ranting?????

I’m pretty sure Jort is socializing an issue s/he feels strongly about in order to provoke conversation and possibly further personal actions on the topic. After all, this is a blog. Instead of being so concerned about another commenter maybe take the extra second and think about what you can contribute to the solution.

Well,  Al…I’m sure you didn’t intend to come across as arrogant as you sound…some of us have already given up our cars to reduce our carbon footprint (been car-less in Seattle 10+ years), we recycle, eat “local”, have sworn off cleaning & lawn chemicals etc…what have YOU done to help preserve our environment? It’s never too late to start. 😊 After all, it’s been said “There is NO Planet B”, just as there isn’t any NEW water…thought provoking isn’t it?

No “Planet B” backup as of yet.  However, Perseverance MOXIE  has just a completed an initial test, producing  roughly 6 grams of O2 from the abundant CO2, enough to power a human for about 10 minutes.  I think we will have a fledgling colony on Mars within the next several decades, maybe sooner.

This planet is pretty nice too, and it will be far less work to just stop driving and ruining it than it will be to set up a colony on another friggin planet.

I full support people who can’t be bothered to protect this planet to relocate to Mars, maybe Trump can lead there. Hope you like cold temperatures, barren landscapes, and wearing oxygen masks. Good luck!

So, we shouldn’t reserve you a seat when that meteor is headed for earth?  Good to know, always need another spot for one of my Chihauhau’s.  Btw, this was meant to be somewhat of a positive, jesting, space-related post  – you and the individual who goes by “Jort,” need to find other scapegoats to exorcise your personal demons.

@Pessoa, you sound rather sensitive to others comments and humor, sorry if you’re having a rough day. No intention to hurt your feelings.

And yes, feel free to give your chi my seat on the flight to mars. There won’t be seats enough for everyone, and if you want a seat, your dog should go too.

Sorry, comment time is over.
