CORONAVIRUS: Tuesday 3/30/2021 roundup

Tonight’s pandemic toplines:

ELIGIBILITY EVE: At midnight, 2 million more people in our state become eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations. Some providers were allowing the almost-eligible to book in advance; others weren’t. To recap, here’s who’s eligible starting Wednesday, in addition to everyone else already eligible:

*Anyone with two or more comorbidities

*Anyone between the ages of 60 and 64

*Anyone living in congregate settings (correctional facilities, group homes for those with disabilities, those experiencing homelessness, etc.)

*Additional workers in congregate settings (restaurants, manufacturing, construction)

If you’re still not eligible, you have one month at most to wait, as the state has said it will comply with the federal decree to make everyone eligible by May 1st. How long it’ll take after that to get enough vaccine for everyone who wants it – too soon to tell. Later in this roundup, you’ll find our nightly list of links for seeking vaccination appointments. But first:

NEWEST KING COUNTY NUMBERS: Checking today’s daily summary from Seattle-King County Public Health – here are the cumulative totals:

*87,726 people have tested positive, 159 more than yesterday’s total

*1,462 people have died, 1 more than yesterday’s total

*5,333 people have been hospitalized, 30 more than yesterday’s total

*969,362 people have been tested, 4,553 more than yesterday’s total

One week ago, the totals were 85,733/1,455/5,232/950,579.

STATEWIDE NUMBERS: See them here.

NATIONAL/WORLDWIDE NUMBERS: 128.2 million cases worldwide, 30.3 million of them in the U.S. – see other nation-by-nation stats by going here.

‘BREAKTHROUGH’ CASES: The state confirms that about 100 people out of the 1 million-plus who are fully vaccinated have gotten the virus anyway.

NEED FOOD? Here’s another place to get it free this Friday.

NO GARAGE SALE DAY: Canceled by the pandemic again this year.

LOOKING FOR A VACCINATION APPOINTMENT? Here’s our ongoing list:

*Check for West Seattle city-run site appointments here; sign up for the city’s notification list for all three of its sites here (that form was down for a while earlier today but appears to be working now).
*Health-care providers (particularly bigger ones like UW Medicine, Franciscan, Swedish, Kaiser Permanente, etc.)
*covidwa.com (volunteer-run aggregator) – you can also follow its tweets for instant notifications
*The state’s Vaccine Locator (as mentioned above)
*The CDC’s Vaccine Finder
*Pharmacies big and small – Safeway, Rite Aid, QFC, Pharmaca, Costco
*Sea Mar clinics

…and 30 more hospitalizations? not a good trend.

  • NorthAdmirals March 31, 2021 (8:18 am)

    30 hospitalized ? I wonder if that’s a correction – that’s near peak numbers

Amazing that they open it up today for 60 and older and not one place in Seattle has the vaccine???  My husband has been trying all morning to find one.  I am even looking and all I find is ones way way South or way way North.  What gives????

@LOLA- https://www.covidwa.com/?zipcode=98116I was able to find several appointments in the coming days on here. Walgreens has a lot of appointments available throughout the city, he just needs to create an account.  Please reply if he still needs help and I’m happy to assist.

Highly recommend CHI Franciscan! Burien is the closest location. Was able to get appointments for myself, husband, in laws, and friends. Just click on the site you want and refresh often! Super easy and convenient.

For eligible individuals who are having difficulty finding appointments, this Facebook group is a great resource: Find a COVID shot WA. There are volunteers running the site who can help you.

Too bad I quit smoking and lost weight, cause those to comorbidities would get me the jab.

    • OneTimeCharley March 31, 2021 (9:55 am)

Those two healthy choices will also make it far less likely that you will be hospitalized or die if you do happen to get infected. Does the perspective help?

        👍

Thankfully we will all be eligible soon.

Hang in there, stay committed to your mitigation efforts.

Side note, think I will be continuing my measures for awhile after vaccination.

@Huh, congratulations on your accomplishments, you should be very proud of yourself and as “onetimecharley” states  what you’ve done will help you stay healthy thru this pandemic.

Any word on how quickly the West Seattle vaccine site is notifying people for appointments now that so many more people are eligible?

    • WSB March 31, 2021 (10:00 am)

My advice: Don’t wait for notification. Keep checking covidwa.com as well as your personal health provider and the city appointment-making link (not the list), at the bare minimum.

    • Kathrine March 31, 2021 (2:29 pm)

Exactly what WSB says, don’t wait for the notification. I still haven’t gotten any sort of notification to sign up even though I am eligible and signed up for them, but I was able to refresh the Lumen Field website enough times that I got an appointment. When I signed up, there were 300 appointments available. I think they must release them in large groups.

  • hopeless March 31, 2021 (10:26 am)

Well, this is just like I thought it was going to be. A couple million people eligible now, and no vaccine. At least no place accessible to people stuck here on the peninsula. Whee.

  • Lola March 31, 2021 (10:42 am)

TFI told him to ck at Harborview.  it looks like they have some.  It would just be nice to get one that he does not have to travel out of WS for.  It is not easy to get anywhere.  Even South would be better than North.  Thank you.

  • WestSeattler March 31, 2021 (12:05 pm)

QFC and CVS  websites haven’t updated their appointment questionnaires yet with the new tier group. You can’t book an appointment there if you provide honest answers even though the state’s website says you’re qualified :/

  • WSB March 31, 2021 (12:52 pm)

For everyone interested, the gov’s office has added a pandemic-response briefing/Q&A session for this afternoon, 3:30 pm.
    Livestream will be at https://www.tvw.org/watch/?eventID=2021031587

    • Stay well March 31, 2021 (1:22 pm)

      Interested and thanks for posting!

  • Lola March 31, 2021 (2:16 pm)

Wesseattler,Yes I tried to do their’s in Burien and not updated.  I have found that with several that the question’s are not updated to reflect the new Tier yet.  My husband tried the one at Kent Showare and you have to live in a certain Zip Code same for the Auburn Supermall no Seattle Zip code or you can’t go to them.

Sorry, comment time is over.
