UPDATE: ‘Scenes of violence’ call in The Junction

11:19 AM: Thanks for the tip about an emergency response in The Junction. SFD and SPD are at the Mural Apartments across from Jefferson Square for a “scenes of violence” response. We’re on the way to find out more.

11:28 AM: Medics are transporting one person. This happened inside the apartment building so we haven’t yet been able to talk to officers, who are inside investigating.

11:39 AM: SFD’s incident commander tells us the person going to the hospital is a man in his 20s with a gunshot wound. The circumstances remain under investigation. A chaplain has been dispatched.

12:38 PM: We went back to the scene and caught up with police getting ready to leave. They would only say “there’s no public safety concern.”

12:55 PM: SFD spokesperson David Cuerpo tells WSB that the victim is 25 and was transported in critical condition, and that this was reported as self-inflicted.

As always when we mention suicide or attempted suicide, we want to remind you that there is 24/7 help – the Crisis Connections hotline is 206-461-3222.

I live on the floor it happened out. About 15-20 police and fire fighters nearly ran me over coming off the elevator rushing to the apartment next to mine. When I came back up the elevator, they had a person on a stretcher – looked a little bloody. Cops were questioning a young guy next up my door.

Just watched cops leave the building with what appear to be confiscated weapons: an ar-15 and a handgun of sorts

It is an apparent suicide attempt with a gun of a guest in the apartment. Man was breathing when they took him out on a gurney. Police still in the apartment and tenants of that apartment are being questioned in the building lobby, but apparently have not been charged with anything or arrested. So sad. Tough times for everyone these days. Street is clear now.

I happened to be at Jefferson Square when all this was happening and talked with the West Seattle Blog journalist and all I can say is, thanks for always being on top of things and being one of the most important resources in our community!

I have kids in their twenties and this breaks my heart. So much going on these days that are shifting our thoughts towards the wrong direction. I hope this guy makes it and can comfort others in his future to help them from doing this. Prayers for his buddy who Im sure is traumatized, prayers for the victim.

This breaks my heart.  Times are so challenging right now.  I challenge everyone to introduce yourself to a neighbor you’ve never met.  A conversation, a friendly hello, a smile could save a life.

Sorry, comment time is over.
