WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Gatewood gunfire

(WSB photo)

Police are investigating gunfire near Myrtle Reservoir Park. Residents called 911 after hearing it about an hour ago; at least two casings were subsequently found in the street near 39th/Willow (map). No injuries or property damage reported. Police told us at the scene that they are interested in hearing from anyone in the area who might have caught something on a security camera; the case number is (corrected) 2020-295620.

Hah, my security camera actually has the video and audio of the person from WSB asking the police officer about this.  Will figure out who to contact and how to get my footage to SPD.Yup at 6:23:25 pm I count 5 very rapid shots fired.  Potentially a coincidence that it was as a car (at fairly high speed) was going north towards 39th & Willow intersection.

You can call the precinct. Officer Culbertson is the one who gave co-publisher Patrick the case #. The precinct commander has said repeatedly that shots-fired calls are a major emphasis. – TR

        Super, thank you!

The amount of gunfire around gatewood recently is very concerning.

I heard this down on 38th. It was very rapid and I was just hoping it was fireworks. Hearing shots has become a pretty regular occurance. I’ve lived here for 13 years, for my whole adult life, and only recently started feeling unsafe. We walk up to that park with our young children all the time. There are a ton of children living around there. I’m feeling so completely over the violence. I love West Seattle, but we are moving.

An example of why we need police

It’s actually an example of why we need detectives, not police officers.

        Detectives are police officers.

        We very clearly need both!
        Btw, detectives are police genius.

DUH, detectives are police officers… but not all police officers are detectives. You can want detectives but not want patrol officers. saying “see this is why we need police” is unnecessarily vague. Patrol officers don’t solve cases, they respond. Detectives solve cases.

Amen to funding our police.   If this is a true democracy, put the defunding to a vote!  It’s not right that people feel the need to move from here because they don’t feel safe.

Sorry, comment time is over.
