ELECTION 2020: Got your ballot yet? Here’s where to find West Seattle’s drop boxes

Two days after King County Elections mailed 1.4 million ballots, they continue arriving … we received ours today. Once you have yours, this year of all years, you’re advised to vote early – avoid that last-day rush, and have your ballot part of the initial totals announced on Election Night! You can use the USPS mail but you can also cut out the middleperson and get your ballot directly into the possession of the people who will process it by using an official KCE drop box. The three in West Seattle are:

West Seattle Junction – south side of SW Alaska between California and 44th SW

High Point – outside the rear entrance plaza of the library – 3411 SW Raymond

South Seattle College – in front of the main administration building – 6000 16th SW

These two are also close to West Seattle:

White Center – outside the east side of the library, 1419 SW 107th

South Park – outside the front of the library, 8604 8th Ave. S.

Go here for the map and list of all drop boxes.

The county sends driver teams out to empty the boxes “every day Monday through Saturday until Election Day with some Sunday and multiple-per-day pick-ups for our busiest boxes. Ballots are always picked up in a team of two and teams have an entire set of security protocols to follow, including seals and logs, every time they pick up ballots.” On Election Day (November 3rd), when the boxes close at 8 pm, the county plans to have traffic-directing help on hand plus “a plainclothes security officer at each drop box location to assist in de-escalating any tense situations and to provide general support to the closing team. Security Officers will be unarmed and will not be wearing an official police uniform. Our goal is for them to blend into the community while also being able to provide extra assistance as needed.” If you don’t get your ballot by Monday (October 19th), contact KC Elections.

Appreciate knowing the ballot box is picked up daily – I was wondering that very thing today. And YAY I’m so excited to vote this year!

Found mine on my lawn today. Checked the doorbell camera and the mail carrier did drop off mail in my mailbox that day. Maybe he delivered it to the wrong address and the neighbor just threw it on the lawn, but very odd either way considering all the hoopla about the security of mail in ballots.

Does your camera have a view of the lawn. If so, then you could see when the mail shows up on your lawn and maybe see how it got there?  Would be interesting.

I live in Arbor Heights and got a ballot today for someone who lives on Vashon—address wasn’t similar in any sense of the word. Mail carrier also delivered mail addressed to three different people who don’t reside at my house and never have lived at my address earlier this week. Kind of shakes your confidence that things are running as smoothly as they should. Definitely going to go the dropbox route myself.

Dropped off our completed ballots at the box in the junction around 3 pm. I’m just a few minutes I saw two others drop off. Loving the early voting action!

Completed my ballot and will drop it off today!  Just a couple of comments, thinking of people who are new to this. All of the issues parts of the ballot were on one side, with the candidates on the other side… with the exception of the presidential race, which was stuck at the bottom of the “issues” side, while there was plenty of room to put it at the top of the candidates side. Hopefully this will not dissuade people from finding it.  Just think after the 2000 election with the butterfly ballots, officials should know to pay attention to ballot design.

Do you know approximately what time of day they empty the ballot boxes? I hate to leave it there overnight.

Noon Saturday the ballot box in the Junction is quite full.  Any idea how to let KC Elections know?  I tried their phone number and got their office closed message.
