Dick’s Drive-Ins fans get yet another chance to vote for West Seattle

(File photo by Christopher Boffoli)

In 2010 and 2017, the Seattle burgers-fries-and-shakes legend Dick’s Drive-Ins took votes on potential new locations. Neither vote resulted in a West Seattle location, much to local fans’ disappointment. But now there’s a new round of voting that again offers the hope of Dick’s in West Seattle – at least temporarily. Multiple readers have pointed out (thank you!) that Dick’s announced today that it’s launching a food truck, and taking votes on where it should go first when it hits the road in November. (Minus fries, it should be noted.) West Seattle is an option on the ballot dropdown – so if you’re a Dick’s devotĂ©e, go here to cast your vote.

No fries?!?  Then they can keep the truck parked in the garage.

Agree. How do you not have the fries?? Also, don’t get me wrong, Dick’s is a great chain that does a lot of local philanthropy but I would prefer supporting a smaller business food truck that isn’t running an empire already.

CORRECT!!!! __ I came to the comments – specifically to ask:  What’s a hamburger WITHOUT fries?  Sounds like a planned failure to me!

    • Bill September 16, 2020 (7:32 am)

Next we’ll get a fish and chips place without ‘fries’!

And it seems they were well aware that the lack of an option for fries would not go over well as their release states that they do plan for a fry truck if the burger truck is well received.  After several decades in business, Dick’s should certainly know that their fries are a huge part of their sales and popularity.  I don’t need to have an option of buying “chips” that I can get at any supermarket, convenience store, drug store, gas station food mart, etc.  A bit underwhelming/disappointing that Dick’s didn’t give the food truck idea some sort of thought process before implementation.  They should have gone the logical route and started off immediately with the burger, fries and shakes.  As it is now, I’d never consider getting anything from a Dick’s food truck sans fries – even it was parked down the block.

Apparently this food truck doesn’t accommodate a deep fryer.  Sounds like if this truck goes over well, though, they may go fancier – including a deep fryer – for future truck(s).  Burgers, chips (to sub for fries), and shakes!

Some *sites* are highlighted.  Why would that be?

We don’t need another option for getting burgers. If Tat’s is coming round here then give me a call.

  • Blang September 16, 2020 (8:22 am)

Time to buy a truck that accommodates fries

Well this is good news.  I don’t want to spend $12.50 per person for lunch.  The price of a cheeseburger at Dick’s is $2.15.  Two of them should do the trick.  So that’s $4.30 plus tax.  I can afford that.  Until Dick’s comes to West Seattle I will continue to look for promotions on the McDonald’s app.

Dick’s was my absolute favorite until I became a vegan and had to give up meat and animal products.  I’ve eaten several thousand Dick’s burgers. I adopted a vegan diet to increase my lifespan and to lower my risk of cancer, diabetes, and other diseases.  I know this will never happen, but I wish that Dick’s would offer a plant based option.

Are you familiar with the Impossible Burger? I think Burger King uses them. Just ask to nix the mayo.

Location Local’ation is two key factors to be considered in however this icon Burger establishment that has been renowned throughout our Puget sound region will make their taster’s choice.. fries or no fies. I vision a Dick’s hamburgers on the intersection of California ave.and Avalon

    • WSB September 17, 2020 (8:15 pm)

That would be quite a trick.

  • Kelly Ray Vielle September 17, 2020 (8:19 pm)

Alki would appreciate a Dick’s burgers just up the hill ..

  • DM September 19, 2020 (11:30 am)

Would be great to have a full-operation Dick’s Truck in WS… but without fries…. I know the owner hates the thought of establishing any further businesses in Seattle but this is cruel :p

Sorry, comment time is over.
