ROAD WORK, TRAFFIC, TRANSIT: Monday watch, 20th week of West Seattle Bridge closure

6:16 AM: It’s Monday, the 133rd morning without the West Seattle Bridge.

ROAD WORK/CLOSURES

*The Delridge RapidRide H Line project continues major work along Delridge Way, with weekend closures ahead – here’s a look ahead to what’s planned this week.

*Another 1st Ave. S. Bridge northbound closure is scheduled tonight, 10 pm-5 am. The West Seattle low bridge is open to all traffic during those hours.

CHECK THE TRAFFIC BEFORE YOU GO

Here’s the 5-way intersection camera (Spokane/West Marginal/Delridge/Chelan):

Here’s the restricted-daytime-access (open to all 9 pm-5 am) low bridge:

The main detour route across the Duwamish River is the 1st Avenue South Bridge (map) . Here’s that camera:

The other major bridge across the river is the South Park Bridge (map). Here’s that camera:

Going through South Park? Don’t speed.

Check the @SDOTBridges Twitter feed for info about any of those bridges opening for marine traffic.

You can see all local traffic cams here; locally relevant cameras are also shown on this WSB page.

I’m glad we have traffic cameras at the 5-way intersection camera (Spokane/West Marginal/Delridge/Chelan).  However, it would be really helpful to have a camera that points to the west so we can see how much traffic is backed up towards Avalon, Admiral & Harbor.  Is there a camera that offers this perspective or could we request one?  Maybe I’m not looking at the camera options correctly. Thank you.

This is the only camera at the intersection and SDOT controls where it points. You can certainly email them to suggest a different view.

That is a good idea Stuck in Traffic! It would help with deciding which way to get out of WS! It is so frustrating to turn onto Spokane from Avalon or merge on from Admiral and have it backed up so far. If we could see what it looks like we can make a decision to go a different way and avoid Spokane all together. Once you get on Spokane you are stuck and now cutting off to Delridge is no time saver with the traffic there.

I thought the hours at night were 9 pm to 5 am every night?  Did something change?  Or are the 9 pm to 5 am only on weekends?

If you mean the low bridge, yes, as note above. The 1st Ave. S. Bridge work is 10 pm-5 am.

Just FYI Avalon heading east/northeast was backed up to 35th at around 4:30. Haven’t seen cars blocking the box in that direction before 😀

Traffic in general – both outbound and inbound – was very backed up about then, especially along W. Marginal – we just came back from our usual late-in-the-day tour. On SB W. Marginal, it was the bridge-bound lane.

Sorry, comment time is over.
