FREE FRUIT! Two more City Fruit pop-ups in West Seattle

Back in July, we told you about City Fruit‘s “Fruit for All” pop-ups, offering free homegrown fruit to anyone who wants it. Two more are coming up in West Seattle – this Wednesday (September 2nd) and two weeks later (September 16th), both at the 32nd/Juneau community garden in High Point, 4 pm-6 pm. Free fruit is first-come, first-served (unless you are a City Fruit member, in which case you can reserve some!). Two High Point pop-ups have happened already, and City Fruit’s Lisa Miyashita tells WSB, “We are usually joined by the P-Patch gardeners (pending the availability of their produce) who offer FREE veggies from the community garden. Together, we are making sure people in our community have access to fresh, nutritious food.”

I have so many small Italian plums, they’re weighing down my tree! Can anyone help me harvest?

That’s what City Fruit is all about!
Too late for this year, though.

Actually Italian plums aren’t quite ripe yet.  More like September.

I meant, too late to sign up this season for City Fruit, they’re maxed out for 2020.

Check your Buy Nothing neighborhood group. I bet there would be people willing and ready!!

Consider donating to the food bank at Morgan Street. We had a tree like that a few years ago and we donated bins of plums which were happily accepted

Kaffeeklatsch (German bakery) in Lake City posted on FB that they are  looking for plums to make traditional plum cake. They’ll come pick and give you cake in exchange! Love Pflaumenkuchen!

Advertise City Fruit more, there was a nice Fig tree a few blocks away that the fruits went to waste.

My kingdom for a fig!  Should I be the one advertising?

There isn’t a shortage of trees, there’s a shortage of volunteers to pick them! That’s why City Fruit’s harvesting schedule is already full. They’d advertise more if they had extra available time in their volunteer pool. I second the suggestions to offer them to your local Buy Nothing group, or to the food bank.

There is a fresh fruit & non-perishable fruit stand  at 9805 24th Ave SW for anyone who needs it. I dropped off a bumper crop of delicious Italian plums. Thanks to whoever runs it because it is a beautiful thing.

Yma italian plums are easy to dry into prunes using your oven.

Sorry, comment time is over.
