WEST SEATTLE SCENE: Busy morning on Elliott Bay

Thanks to Stewart L. for the photo – he noticed the Water Taxi navigating through “at least 100 boats” around 6 am. This site indicates salmon fishing is allowed today in East Elliott Bay, so that’s the big draw.

Aren’t boats required to keep the lane clear?  Also, does this mean the sea lion slaughter is about to begin?

There is no “lane” for the water taxi.  There are shipping lanes, however they are out in the main channel of the sound.  The water taxi must follow boating laws and that does not necessarily mean that everyone must scurry out of the way.

This is a cool photo and an interesting situation!

Please support our beautiful, starving local southern orca J-pod.  Their numbers are dwinding and unsustainable.  The babies born the past two years have died.  RELEASE YOUR CHINOOK (KING) SALMON back into Puget Sound to feed our orcas.  It is a major food source for them – we humans can eat a lot of other fish!

I also saw people at the Seacrest fishing pier.

Sorry, comment time is over.
