FRIDAY: Talk with your Seattle Public Schools board rep Leslie Harris

A little over one month until school starts … remotely … for Seattle Public Schools students and staff. You have a chance this Friday to talk with/hear from Leslie Harris, who represents West Seattle and South Park on the SPS Board of Directors. The 6:30 pm meeting July 31st sponsored by the Seattle Council PTSA will be online, and you have to register in advance to get the meeting link – you can do that here.

Any idea if there will be opportunity to make a comment, or question during the meeting? Would anyone know who to contact about that? I am so disappointed that the school system looks like it wil be only remote learning  to start. This was such a debacle last time, I want to know how it will be better, or if there is ANY way the kids can get into the classrooms at least part time.

According to the confirmation note I got when registering so that we can cover it, there’s an email address for questions in advance. Will ask organizers if they plan “live” Q/A too.

Thank you for posting this. I haven’t heard about it from the schools!

Your school’s new PTA leaders should have heard about the meeting as it was promoted by the Seattle Council PTSA. Unfortunately there might not be a membership email list yet as the school year hasn’t yet begun. I’m not sure how else they can promote except on social media (which was all our PTA was able to do at this time).

@Mom and anyone else –  Leslie Harris’s community meetings and lots of other goodies are always listed on Seattle Schools’ home page:https://www.seattleschools.org/It’s worthwhile to check out that page every couple weeks.

Hello, this event is entirely organized, promoted, hosted and moderated by Seattle Council PTSA. Please “like” our fb page Seattle Council PTSA and stay in close contact with your PTA – we share relevant information with our local units. Besides this meeting, we sponsor forums and listening sessions for our communities across the district

The meeting was a complete disappointment.. Ms. Harris was almost 40 min late joining the call. Ms. Rankin, who reps for another region of SPS, filled in for her until connected but as u can imagine .. had no definitive answers for us. Things got no better when Harris joined. Almost every question answered by stating the obvious – these are unprecedented times, everyone is trying their best, we don’t know the answer for that yet. The teachers are Still bargaining or there are no funds … blah blah.. I don’t know if this meeting was scheduled too soon?? (Come on.. school starts in a few weeks). Or if there really is nobody driving the bus .. 75 families were on the call and one of the last chat comments summed it up perfectly .. we are all fucked!

We covered it so I’ll be writing about it later today.

Sorry, comment time is over.
