Another outage: Comcast/Xfinity

Thanks for all the tips on this: We don’t know yet if it’s related, but a widespread Comcast/Xfinity outage is reported – we’ve heard from affected customers from Alki to North Delridge to The Junction to Morgan Junction to South Delridge, so far.

I have an outage in High Point too. Mobile networks seem way slower too – I guess everyone working from home is tethering?

  • DEF July 28, 2020 (11:12 am)

Sunrise Heights, no Internet since 10:43.

  • Michele July 28, 2020 (11:15 am)

It is down in Highland Park also.

  • Cabo T. July 28, 2020 (11:17 am)

No internet in Highland Park, too.

    Out here in highland park.

  • Adriane July 28, 2020 (11:17 am)

It’s down in Alki. Been down since 9:30.

    • Matt July 28, 2020 (12:12 pm)

We’re at California Ave, few blocks south from Admiral and we have the same issue since about 11:00am. Even our data is slower than usual

  • Stephen K. Doig July 28, 2020 (11:20 am)

Ours is still out near WS High School.

Times like this really make me wish I had more choices for internet. Both options here in Seattle are very poor. Comcast continually trying to trick you with deals, and century link is so bad I won’t even bother with them again. Are their good cellular options for Highland Park? Now that my internet is down it affects my wife and I’s ability to earn a living.

    • rpo July 28, 2020 (12:05 pm)

I’ve had Centurylink fiber for 4 years. Not one outage, and no price increases for life. I am pretty happy with them so far.

    • satisfiedcustomer July 28, 2020 (12:13 pm)

Love my Centurylink.  Never had a problem, but then I never had problems with Comcast for the 20+ years I was with them.

    • rmkensington July 28, 2020 (2:20 pm)

Not sure what problem you had with centurylink.  I have used their gigafiber for 4 years straight and its only gone out once a couple of months ago.  It was out for 1 hour.  That is pretty amazing service.  Blazing fast and only about $65 a month, no download limits either.  I cannot believe anyone in this city uses comcast.

      • RandomGeek July 30, 2020 (6:49 pm)

We use Comcast because legal monopolies still exist (and suck). Can’t get fiber in our hood.

    • TreeHouse July 29, 2020 (6:46 am)

I’ve had centurylink fiber for 4 years and it’s only gone down once. Awesome speeds, decent prices, and high reliability. Your experience is very different from mine.

  • Donna in the Junction July 28, 2020 (11:27 am)

Comcast sent a text that all was restored, but I can’t get the cable or modem to get going. No internet. Anyone else still having connectivity issues?

  • Goddess Andraste July 28, 2020 (11:29 am)

Just came back online here in Highland Park.

  • m July 28, 2020 (11:31 am)

Just went back down again in South Delridge. ☹️

  • Sunny July 28, 2020 (11:31 am)

Yes out in Alki. I received this message from tech support just now:  due to unforeseen circumstances, your area is experiencing an interruption to their XFINITY Internet. We are working to resolve the issue. Interruption began on 07/28/2020 10:48 AM (Pacific) and is expected to end 07/28/2020 02:49 PM (Pacific).

  • Officer Lumpy July 28, 2020 (11:32 am)

Internet back up in Admiral and California at 11:15am

  • rsmith July 28, 2020 (11:38 am)

Back up in Admiral.  Was out for an hour

  • Mj July 28, 2020 (12:33 pm)

    Xfinity sucks.

  • Admiral Area July 28, 2020 (1:08 pm)

Ours has been off and on all morning. We’ve been experiencing this for a few days.

  • Michael Waldo July 28, 2020 (1:22 pm)

never affected Arbor heights – which is good for me as I work from home talking calls – my boss it not understanding – since work from home, I have had two internet outages and she docks me the hours I am off the phones even though I am here ready to work – life during war time.

    • Wes C. Addle July 28, 2020 (1:41 pm)

      That sounds awful Michael.

    • KM July 28, 2020 (2:54 pm)

I’m sorry, Michael. I assume they are not paying for your internet as well either. Working from home can save companies a lot of money, Im concerned we won’t see them step up to pay for tools they used to provide for their employees. I know of a company or two that does this, but their employees were permanent work from home long before COVID.

  • trickycoolj July 28, 2020 (1:48 pm)

Irritating that the only alternative in parts of High Point cannot be classified “broadband” by FCC rule. You can have Comcast ($$$) or 1.5mbps DSL from Clink for ($59.99). That’s it. I hope I can get on the Starlink beta.

    • Ducky July 29, 2020 (2:16 pm)

TrickyCoolJ,I would love to know why Century Link fiber seems to be prohibited in High Point. If I use the Century Link website to search my neighbors’ addresses (which are not officially under the dominion of the Seattle Housing Authority) I find many are gig speed enabled. Literally homes across the street and farther down the street have Century Link fiber but as a High Point residence I don’t. I’ve called Century Link and they can’t tell me why although I suspect there was some exclusive contract the Seattle Housing Authority signed with Comcast. Any insight from your end would be helpful. Thanks!

  • AlkiRosco July 28, 2020 (1:54 pm)

Does anyone in upper Alki/Admiral have a more reliable and faster option?

    • John July 28, 2020 (4:09 pm)

Centurylink fiber optics at $65 for life. I get 110 mbps.

      • Tim July 28, 2020 (5:16 pm)

I have CenturyLink also and no issues. High speed fiber too.I’m below the Junction. I vpn into work and the folks in the home are online a lot and no drops even watching Netflix.I did have to reboot my router once.

  • MFlash July 28, 2020 (4:00 pm)

What are we paying for??? I had 2 techs out last week, both did different things; one up the pole. I call for a discount on my bill. Estimate 8.00 per day! Brother! Such a waste of time when I need to be working at home! When will the fiber optic be installed???? 2022???? Enough with the bridge out! LOL!

  • Meeeeee July 28, 2020 (4:41 pm)

I have Comcast (Morgan Junction-ish area) and it goes out pretty much everyday for 10-20 minutes.  Luckily my employer provides me with a hotspot as a backup so I always have that nearby and turn that on as soon as Comcast drops. That’s my workaround.

  • Camille Cage July 29, 2020 (6:22 am)

37th Ave SW and Genesee Day 2 of no Comcast.

  • Sml July 29, 2020 (10:26 am)

Xfinity issues since at least 8 this morning. I didn’t notice before that since I didn’t need it.

  • Ducky July 29, 2020 (2:03 pm)

Have been experiencing intermittent outages all day in High Point. Two Xfinity trucks with workers in the air at about 10:45 am this morning just outside my home but things aren’t any better after they left. Connection will be working fine for ten to twenty minutes with good bandwidth (> 100 mbps) and then I’ll just lose connection… and then a minute or two later things will magically start working again. Anybody else still experiencing issues?

  • Brick August 5, 2020 (4:54 pm)

Hitting SE Seattle. Not a complete outage, just super, super slow and intermittent.

Sorry, comment time is over.
