WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Restaurant furniture stolen

Just as the city encourages more businesses to use outdoor space to make things safer for customers and staff – one West Seattle restaurant’s outdoor area has been hit by theft. The photo is from Itto’s Tapas (California/Genesee), which texted the photo and reports, “Someone stolen a couple outdoor tables and chairs last night after midnight.” A police report has been filed (tracking # T20018446)..

I just don’t understand how people can steal things that others have worked for. Selfish. Entitled. And just low life.  You want something go out and work and buy it yourself.

Itto’s,  I have some extra outdoor tables you can use for the next 3 weeks until I open my other location back up.

Stealing from this neighborhood business is stealing from everyone in our neighborhood. They made a great effort to open, serve the neighborhood, keep their staff employed, contribute taxes & keep some resemblance of normalcy in these tough times. Thanks for opening & being there for us. Hope we can help in  return.

Such good community vibes, Peel & Press! I am so sorry to Khalid! People are such jerks! What a time to steal from a small business! As if things haven’t been rough enough!

      Class act…..

We love Itto’s and during these crazy times they donated their time and food and provided free meals at the West Seattle Eagles on Tuesdays. The only day they are closed. I would be happy to start a go fund me for new tables/chairs and way to secure. So disappointing.

This is why defunding the police is insane. We need more police and police that work in the neighborhood which they live Police need to be fully funded including pay increases, better training and officer social workers who are dressed in street clothes.  West Seattle has deteriorated in the last few years.

    • Duffy June 27, 2020 (11:40 pm)

That’s not what defunding the police means. But OK.

      • Carl June 28, 2020 (7:41 pm)

        Duffy, You are so right!!
Defund police doesn’t mean defund police. Like abolish police doesn’t mean abolish police. Like cancel SPOG pensions doesn’t mean cancel SPOG pensions. Maybe you could show me how this works by defunding your bank account into mine?

      Allie, I agree completely

orrrrr you could more money into the community and crime PREVENTION. they do not need raises, dear god. have you seen how much their salaries are already!?

      • Real Change June 28, 2020 (3:31 pm)

@WS REZZZ: so, with the money that used to go to SPD, what specifically could the community have done to prevent this crime?

    • Shawn Marie Paris June 28, 2020 (6:58 pm)

Absolutely true! More police doing police work instead of social work will serve many purposes…redefining will lead to better community service for all.

    • Carl June 28, 2020 (7:33 pm)

      Well said Allie, Thank you!

It’s a pain, but unfortunately all the resteraunts will have to bring indoors their goods every single night. Don’t think about locking with a cable loop. They walk around with cutters and take what they want. Blessings on both your businesses 👍🏼

The restaurant business is tough without COVID.  The COVID has hit this industry hard and these thieves just make it that much harder.  Thieves need to be caught and made accountable!

I lived in west Seattle during the 1980s and early 1990s decided I had enough after my neighbors and my house where broken into just north of the high point projects area on 31st Ave SW.  It had some good points the houses where affordable.  It’s better today than that time however if people want something bad enough there’s nothing that will stop them unless you lock them up.

  • Batty June 28, 2020 (8:41 pm)

Well that just stinks. Peel & Press, Good karma coming your way!Hey RJB, I hope you see this comment, love your idea of setting up a GoFundMe page so they can buy replacement outdoor furniture and hopefully a locking mechanism. Keep us posted!

My intention in highlighting this comment- that is made often and people don’t even realize it has racial bias attached.  neighbors and my house where broken into just north of the high point projects areaIn my opinion this is the kind of comment that is saying that living near a low income community is riskier.   Saying ‘just north of the projects’ is assuming that others will know what that means.  It’s like when people imply a neighborhood is good or bad.  Far too long white people have used those descriptions to describe the ethnic make up of a community.  Good=white=safe.   Bad=non-white=dangerous.

None of these small restaurants will likely make it through the rest of the year. According to several sources. And my prediction as well. Not what I want. We thrived for 102 years since the Spanish Flu. Now we’re all paying for overpopulation.

Sorry, comment time is over.
