On Sunday I ventured out for the first time in 4+ months. Of the three buses I took, two of the drivers were not wearing masks. I stopped at Westwood Village QFC while waiting for a transfer. The store was well organized and most (not all) people were complying by wearing masks and distancing. However, there was a young man who appeared to be a ‘professional’ shopper (possibly filling pickup orders) who was not wearing PPE of any kind, nor observing distancing or directional rules. I’ve had to rely on delivery or neighbors helping to pick up orders for me all these months, and it has always worried me how my food was being handled. Now my worst fears have been confirmed. There is just no way and nowhere to be safe, because all precautions are voluntary. Even those in professional positions are not observing guidelines. Ironically, Metro drivers have made a big stink about requiring passengers to wear masks so that drivers are protected – when they themselves are not doing so. This places riders at great risk, most of whom have no choice but to ride the bus. I’ve reported all incidents to appropriate authorities, but me cago en la mar.
