WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Car thief on video

That security video shows the thief who took Ariana‘s red 2014 BMW x3 from her Fauntleroy driveway. Note the accomplice moving solid-waste containers at upper left. Here’s the plate:

If you see it, call 911.

Catch 22… You leave the door unlocked to avoid a smash and grab but they opt to steal the car instead.

Nice camera. Great images but did it stop recording? I cant make out the drivers face. Any description? Make sure to file police report for your insurance and i bet it is recovered but will likely be trashed. Good luck.

Condolences to Ariana.  Hopes of quick recovery.  Incredible video.  It appears the thief had immediate entry but then took some time inside the car with the video cutting before the car moves.

I’m sorry to hear about another car theft. I wish criminals were deterred by security cameras. Maybe it works on some but clearly not all. Nice car. I hope you get it back unscathed.

He sort of looks like the guy who stole my bicycle last weekend (Black bandana, backpack, coat, shaved head, etc…).  He also had a partner…

Do they know how it was stolen? That car has multiple sophisticated security features on it. It can’t be hot-wired. The way that they opened the door made it look like they had the key or it was left unlocked. Or maybe it was a signal repeater?

Do you have any pics where you can see the hairline? Our guy was pretty bald.

      • Ray May 23, 2020 (7:20 am)

        Looks bald to me

The tough part is that BMW can track the car. They called spd and I tried to call and left an email letting them know that they know where the car is. I can’t get any answers. :(

      Did you call 911?

      • Ariana May 22, 2020 (8:50 am)

Called police and was forwarded to auto theft unit. Got to a voice recording. Left messages and emailed as directed. They found the car this morning. Residents of an apartment complex reported it as it had damaged multiple cars in their parking lot. :( Just another drug crime.

Where on Fauntleroy? I live close by.

    • WSB May 21, 2020 (9:49 pm)

In Fauntleroy, not on. Near 46th/Tillicum.

Ariana:  Call 911. If that doesn’t work, contact the WS  city council representative, Lisa Herbold and report this and ask for help.It seems that WSB could follow up if the police aren’t helping and find out why not.http://www.seattle.gov/council/herbold/

Thank you WSB! I’ll follow up with Lisa Herbold. It seems so frustrating that things continue to be stolen in our neighborhoods and it feels like it just continues with no ramifications for the perpetrators. Since yesterday I’ve found out about two other major thefts in our little hill road. In talking to neighbors we’ve found that some of these thieves are brazen enough to go into houses in plain daylight. Everybody also mentioned how grateful they are for the work you do at WSB in keeping us aware of what is going on in our neighborhood. Thank you so much for the work you do. It means a lot to all of us!

Ariana!!! Your car has been dumped at 25th and 106th. Sheriff here now.

    • Ariana May 22, 2020 (8:52 am)

Thanks for the message! My husband went over to meet the Sheriff. I hope your car wasn’t one of the ones that was damaged. If so, I’m sorry. We are arranging pick up right now. Thank you so much! Hoping maybe we can get it refurbished…

Nope, I’m all good.  I’m sorry this happened to you.  I noticed they towed the car and the tow truck driver wasn’t the most careful I’ve ever seen.  I hope that everything works out okay for you.

Sorry, comment time is over.
