Three West Seattle Crime Watch notes:

STOLEN CAR: From Kelsey near California/Juneau – her 1986 light blue 4-door Honda Accord was taken Friday morning. Awaiting plate; meantime, if you see a car like this obviously abandoned somewhere, call it in.

PACKAGE THEFT: This happened around 5:15 pm Friday near 26th/Trenton, says Josh, who sent this video link.

ILLEGAL DUMPING: As if a small business that’s had most of its operation closed by the virus crisis doesn’t have enough to worry about – Best of Hands Barrelhouse (WSB sponsor) co-proprietor Nicholas sends word of this:

On Tuesday I noticed illegal dumping on our lot. It must have been there a day or so because animals had gotten into the bags already. I began to clean up the mess & sort the trash as there was all sorts of materials mixed in – dirty diapers, plastic bottles, compostables – when I noticed at least four used hypodermic needles.

Furthermore, the lot behind the brewery is not part of our lease. It belongs to Clearview. However, folks are letting their dogs s–t all over the lot. They are being terrible neighbors, and either leaving the feces there, or bagging it and leaving the bags there. I know the majority of West Seattle folks are better than this. Some people just don’t want to take responsibility, & have no empathy for small business owners.

We have no other choice but to add outside cameras to the premises as these aren’t the first or only instances of illegal dumping and bad behavior directed at the lot on 35th & Webster.

lllegal dumping is a misdemeanor.

Hang in there Nicolas. Sorry for you and all who are strapped with bills and no income. On a less critical note, will someone please tell me why a dog owner would bag up their dog’s poop then leave it behind? And I know there are allot of you out there who do. I guess better than not bagging at all but what are you thinking? I love most dogs and most dog owners, but please don’t leave crap behind or let your dog off leash outside of the dog parks. Now that our lives have slowed a bit, take a moment and think about doing the right thing with your doo doo and with your life.

Illegal dumping and dog owners leaving bags of dogs@&t laying around? Welcome to West Seattle. For real, I don’t think this is being reported as “news”; if anything I hope that folks reading this will understand they need to clean up after themselves and their pets.

Dang Nicolas, so ridiculous. The dog owners doing this live in the neighborhood so they need to stop being AHs! I’ve seen that for the past several months as I walk home from the bus. Also, Clearview needs to step up to the plate and keep that lot clean (along with instructing their employees and patients how to park legally), regardless of who dumps what there. It’s THEIR responsibility. Next set of crap I see in that lot sitting there for weeks, I will file a complaint directly with the city. Enough.

Those tiny bags of dog poo, so neatly tied and dropped for someone else to “take care of”. That takes a royal self-entitled attitude. I’d bet money that they make someone else do their laundry too.

I think it’s really odd and i have been seeing an increase in (full) dog poop bags outside of trash cans and out in the open.

It is odd-I’ve noticed too. Maybe dog owners do not want to touch trash can lids to throw them away. (just speculating)

Agreed about the dog poop problem. The alley between Citywatch and Sky apartments is a favorite poop dumping ground – bagged and unbagged – even though there is a dumpster available for public use. We walk our dogs there because one of them (adopted from a shelter) is highly reactive to other dogs and loud sounds. I’ve given up bitching about the disrespectful dog owners; instead, I make it a point to pick up my dog’s poop and using the same bag I pick up any other trash I can fit into the bag before disposing of it in the dumpster. One thing that would really help us all in this area: Get the city to remove the temporary fencing around the large area that’s earmarked for a neighborhood park. A flat, green space is of much more use to us now than a fancy park sometime in the unknown future.

Two items… There are city steps by my home. The City cut back bushes last summer to keep the stairs clear. That day I picked up 23 dog poop bags there. The bushes hid the bags. The AH dog owners would simply walk by and toss them in the bushes.

Second item: I’ve written to the national and state parks requesting no more dogs on trails. I’m tired of seeing all the dog poop bags tossed on the side of the trail. The owners tell themselves they’ll pick them up on the way out….they don’t. I bet I picked up 50 last summer. I carry a bread or newspaper bag just for picking up others dog poop bags.

Anyone owning vacant land has experienced illegal dumping. It is a fact of our times and the cost of the dump. The only way to reduce illegal dumping is to offer free garbage pick up. IOf the garbage is immediately removed, others will soon add to the pile.It is useless to try and prevent dog owners from discreetly tossing their shit bags whenever no one is watching and there is plant coverage.
