Any ideas what was happening on alki this morning?  Metro reroutes and large call out for over an hour.

I have the same question…what happened on 61st and Alki? Metro sent a few text alerts, one of which said due to emergency response. I live close by but didn’t hear anything.

I texted the WSB breaking news number and didn’t get a response. Nothing showed up on the traffic map either. It was very alarming.

Nobody texted us while that incident, a mid-level SFD callout, was happening, which was 4:19 am. 3 units were there for about an hour, according to the incident log. Guess that’s enough for a Metro alert (those are sometimes belated, we notice while covering events in realtime). Anyway, I’m checking with SFD to see what it was.

206/293-6302 is the number I contacted from the Contact tab. I got my first Metro alert at 5:18am to warn about delays, then another about bus reroutes, then the final one at 5:52 saying all was clear.

You were probably the 5:54 text then. But again, the call was closed by then, and as explained by SFD, no big deal anyway, but a couple fire trucks is all it would take to bollix up that i/s.

From SFD re: the 4 am call at 2724 Alki: “There was white smoke observed in the basement of the building, with power dimming to the building. Seattle City Light was called out to the scene. No reports of an active fire.”

Thanks for the follow-up WSB! Good to know it was nothing of serious concern.

Sorry, comment time is over.
