BIZNOTE: The Good Society Brewery and Public House is open

(WSB photos unless otherwise credited)

Moments after The Good Society Brewery and Public House (2701 California SW) opened its doors at 3 pm, we got a text reporting it was packed, with a line out the door. The line was gone by the time we got there, but a crowd remained.

We first wrote last July about what West Seattleites Nick Berger and Phil Cammarano were planning for The Good Society – “to marry good beer with good deeds”.

Their first two nonprofit beneficiaries are the West Seattle Food Bank and Forterra. And, also as promised, there’s a kids’ play area:

The inaugural menu features five Good Society beers plus three “guest taps,” $2/four ounces, $5/ten ounces, $6/twelve ounces, as well as two ciders, three wines, and four non-alcoholic beverages (including juice boxes for $1.50).

Seven items on the food menu – $4 for snack mix or a kids’ plate, $5 for pretzels or a bagel dog, %10 cheese plate, $11 for a hummus plate or charcuterie. Hours are:

Monday/Tuesday closed
Wednesday: 3 PM – 10 PM
Thursday: 3 PM – 10 PM
Friday: 3 PM – 10 PM
Saturday: 11:30 AM – 10 PM
Sunday: 11:30 AM – 9 PM

Lots of kids, is that a pub or a Casper Babypants gig?

Apparently it’s the norm now to bring your kids where you can drink . Just like the new play space for kids where wine is served.

        Get off my lawn!

        • Luke February 15, 2020 (6:24 am)

Yep! Every bar and restaurant is now a nursery here, it’s truly annoying.

    • Lisab February 14, 2020 (8:35 pm)

Haha! Thought the same….not looking too appealing:)

Now the kids can get out of school and meet you for happy hour, lol.

😂🤣 LOL .. thanks for the laugh, Wendell!

Miserable anti child jerk raises his minority opinion.   Nobody cares for your opinion Sir.  Learn to be accepting.  Your life is not doomed merely by the presence of a couple of young people that YOU once were yourself.

Is it so terrible to dislike to be around kids? While I love little ones, they can be annoying in groups while you want to relax and quaff a few. Maybe you should learn to be accepting of others preferences and dislikes, even though they are different than yours. Tolerance is a two way street street Keef. I, for one, do care for his opinion.

Did you just call someone a jerk then lecture them on bring more accepting?

        • Lol! February 15, 2020 (2:11 pm)

          Hilarious isn’t it!

The beer is amazing!! Best I have ever tasted.  Try a flight so you can see which one you like best.  The atmosphere in the place is friendly, open and inviting– so excited to have Good Society in our neighborhood!

This looks so great, I can’t wait to try it out.

West Seattle has a ton of families.  It use to be a dog neighborhood and then those families moved onto having kids.  I am SO happy ws has a brewery to accommodate the changing demographics.  Thank you for the much needed kids area!  You will benefit from having this!

West Seattle has always had families.. that sounds silly! I just wouldn’t want to bring my children to a bar, to hang out. Not my idea of enjoyment. For myself or the child. And since I have older children, which have been raised in WS, we definitely had a TON of enjoyment. Not at bars…But hey, you wanna bring the  childs I think it’s a good idea to have a place where  you can all be together ! One big happy family!

Yes and when the teachers get done for the day they can walk across the street for a Brewsky or two!

  • Villagegreen February 14, 2020 (11:45 pm)

Ha! Almost every brewery in Seattle allows kids. Get over it. The more important topic is the beer. Unfortunately, it’s just ok. Definitely better than West Seattle Brewing, but not even in the same  galaxy as Best of Hands. Luckily for them the fact that they allow kids will most likely keep them in business.

Admiral Junction has a neighborhood brewpub! Thanks to WSB for the coverage. The brewpub looks looks great, and I hope to heft a pint with some friends there soon.Optimism Brewery, on not-exactly-kid-friendly Capitol Hill/First Hill, has had a play area for children since it opened. Elliott Bay has had a Kids’ Menu forever; if they had room for a play area, they might have one. Seattle still has plenty of child-unfriendly places if you have a need. ;-)

Reminded me of pubs in the UK where neighbors get together to share a pint at the end of the work week. We all thought our beers were great! Loved the atmosphere too. So friendly. A great addition to the neighborhood.

  • MBerg February 15, 2020 (1:48 pm)

Loved the atmosphere and the Shiny Object IPA! Definitely will be back.

  • local-ws-user February 16, 2020 (2:24 pm)

Was not impressed. The play area is about the size of a coat closet. The noise level inside is deafening. I’d suggest earplugs, especially for the kids. The beer was okay. Not bad, but also not any better than other local options where I wouldn’t have to worry about losing a kid in the sea of adults.

  • Kathleen McKee February 16, 2020 (7:26 pm)

Great local place owned by local people.  Especially enjoyable after 6 pm when there are fewer kids.   The brewer has won numerous awards and really knows his stuff.  The Shiny Object IPA is really good.

Sorry, comment time is over.
