WEST SEATTLE WEATHER: Snow still expected, but alert level has changed; Metro’s reminder for riders

3:23 PM: The National Weather Service has just downgraded the alert level to a Winter Weather Advisory, in effect from now until 6 am Monday, for the purple areas on the map above (which is from the NWS’s regional home page). As you’ve probably noticed, it’s sunny and in the 40s right now (though Snohomish County, for example, is seeing snow). The advisory says that’s expected to change: “Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches.” Here’s the updated forecast.

4:53 PM: Metro has sent a news release with reminders that distlll to this:

What’s different this year, what’s new?

Easier-to-find snow bus route information at MetroWinter.com
New printed snow brochures in English and Spanish
More bus routes added to the Emergency Snow Network, totaling about 65 core bus routes, DART routes and chained shuttles

7:02 PM: “Just in case” news releases keep coming in. Seattle Public Schools says if anything happens requiring changes, they’ll make a decision by 3:45 am.

Well, I braved Safeway.  I did not realize there is also a sports game today at 3:40 so if there is a “what the hell was that” merit badge, I just got it.  There is still bread.  Bagels and cream cheese are sold out (which doesn’t make sense for sports or snow but you do you, weirdos, lol).  I did see two snow plows while I was out.  They seem to be stationing themselves near Westwood Village, so SDoT is ready.  The kind of ready that jinxes the snow so it never comes.  I’m going to salt my sidewalk before bed, but I am feeling pretty alright about the impending weather.  Thanks for keeping us appraised of the forecast!

I’ve seen Safeway’s in WS completely out of things on a “normal” day. No bread one day. No chicken another day. No bagged salad even when there isn’t a recall. Etc.. These started to be not run so well in the past few years. Never saw them being out of food staples before that. Probably out of milk next week.

So far – it doesn’t look like we’ll get a ton of snow, maybe a few inches – but what we do get will stick for the week. Stay warm.yes – big sports game this afternoon. I’m surprised it wasn’t chips & salsa that was out. Hope you got what you needed.

West Seattle Library closed as of 5, and bookdrop locked “because of snow”.

5 pm is the normal end time on Sundays (the extra hour was added at the start so they now open noon at Sundays)

really??? the bookdrop locked? because of snow?

      • Mk January 12, 2020 (7:37 pm)

Maybe someone put snow in the book drop one year and it ruined all the books? Can’t think of why else they would lock it.

Can someone help me decipher the 131 snow route map? Looks like if it goes into effect it bypasses Highland Park altogether, instead going up Olson to Roxbury/4th? The way the map is presented alongside the 132 route threw me off.

Bagels actually make sense.  I got some in case the power goes out and I can’t cook anything.  As for the book drop, I’m guessing it was locked in case employees couldn’t get to work and empty it.

Sorry, comment time is over.
