We have a large number of stolen car reports. A surprising number. And I’m sure it’s just a small number of what actually gets stolen. Are cars not typically recovered?

Most ARE eventually found – often via the automated plate readers SPD uses (listen to the scanner for a day sometime and you’ll hear how often that happens), other times by people calling in a suspicious-seeming vehicle, and we’ve had some “reunions” via reports like these too. They may turn up outside the jurisdiction, though – I was researching a case last night in which a guy is facing two auto-theft-related charges, one in which he was found in South Seattle in a car stolen in White Center, another in which he was found in Tacoma in a car stolen in Federal Way … TR

Thank you for the update. Sometimes stolen vehicles turn up in another jurisdiction – like yours did – sometimes just blocks away from where they were stolen, so posting a “be on the lookout” here is always worthwhile just in case. – TR
