WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen black Forester; another Audi-theft attempt; illegal dumping plagues church

Three reports in West Seattle Crime Watch tonight:

STOLEN SUBARU: Texted report – “Unfortunately our black 2016 Subaru Forester was stolen last night from our driveway in North Admiral. OH license plate GWA1001 … sizable dent in the driver’s-side door.” Call 911 if you see it.

ANOTHER AUDI THEFT ATTEMPT: This happened last month, but Adrian just heard about the rash of crimes targeting Audis and so shares this report of what happened near 35th/Cambridge:

Someone attempted to steal my 2003 Audi A4 from in front of my house in the early morning of December 19th. They nearly totaled the car by destroying the door lock and ignition cylinder. The car is still at the dealership today getting fixed. They also stole a green Northface rain jacket and a Pelican brand case from the car.

ILLEGAL DUMPING AT CHURCH: From the Rev. Kate Wesch at St.John the Baptist Episcopal Church:

Local church and neighbors are concerned at the recent rise in incidents of illegal dumping of large items such as furniture in the area surrounding West Seattle High School and St John the Baptist Episcopal Church. In each situation, the church, which operates entirely upon the donations of parishioners, incurs the costs in time and money, to dispose of these items. It has become both a frustration and a burden for the small staff and volunteers. Church members urge neighbors to keep an eye out and if you see something, say something.

The items in the photo, she says, are a couch and chair. She adds, “And we still have a large tv stand left three weeks ago while we were having a Sunday morning service!”

The church shouldn’t have to incur the cost or hassle of picking up the illegally dumped items. They can report them to the city and someone will pick them up. I do it with an app whenever I find garbage dumped in my neighborhood and it’s always picked up within a few days.

I work at the church. We have tried reporting it to the app and the city. When items have been dumped on the dead end street between the high school and the church, they will pick it up. When items are left on the church property, they deny pick up because it is private property. It has become extremely frustrating for staff and volunteers who must deal with it. Yesterday, a volunteer hauled it to the dump in the rain so it would all be gone before Sunday morning. Thanks for your concern!

They should utilize the Seattle Find It Fix It app. I have reported illegal dumping numerous times with great results. The City has been extremely fast with pick up of the dumped items. I have been very impressed.

We have a 2003 Audi A4 also that was attempted to be broken into in mid December right off Beach Drive. The lock on the drivers door was cracked open with a screw driver, the remaining parts were found on the ground. This is definitely an amateur as brute force and a screw driver will not get a car with a microchip immobilizer.

The city will not pick up items dumped  on private property, which includes  the church grounds.

The church is at a disadvantage because they are probably too honest.  But let’s just say someone carried the thing to the curb, and someone called the city to report that someone dumped it illegally.  Would that violate the 9th commandment?

There’s constantly illegal dumping on the side of Sanislo Elementary. Super sad that people continue to do this. What kind of monsters are you? Don’t you have trash wherever you’re at? Why can’t we do anything about this?

Sorry, comment time is over.
