NEIGHBORHOOD MEETINGS: Admiral NA postponed; Delridge District Council canceled

As we head into midweek, it’s usually the busy time for community meetings, but we have word this afternoon of two changes due to the potential for snow tonight:

ADMIRAL NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION: The every-other-month meeting scheduled for tonight is postponed, according to ANA president David Hancock. No new date yet – we’ll publish a revised announcement when that happens.

DELRIDGE DISTRICT COUNCIL: This meeting planned for Wednesday night is canceled, according to chair Mat McBride, to avoid the possible need for a last-minute cancellation. Next meeting is expected to happen February 19th.

I thought WSB had previously reported that McBride was stepping away from Delridge District Council due to low attendance?

Yes, he was, but now, he’s not, as mentioned in our coverage of D1CN’s meeting last week; though the Southwest District Council disbanded, the DNDC has not yet – what Mat said last fall was that it would be on “hiatus” TFN. I think new participation would still be quite welcome.

Low attendance has been a challenge for volunteer civic community groups citywide for a while. It’s unfortunate, and I have opinions about that. How that factors into my decision to step down is based on the premise that someone new to the role would bring in new ideas and social circles. However well (or poorly) I’ve performed in this role can’t mitigate the fact that turnover in leadership eventually becomes necessary for continued growth. Also, I’ve got a lot going on.
      .
The keyword is transition. I was in my thirties when I took this role, and benefited tremendously from the mentorship and guidance that I received. My desire is to spend a year being available in whatever capacity is desired to a new civic leader. That offer still stands. I’ve seen, and like to believe have contributed to the value of these civic groups, so I’ll continue in this role until it isn’t necessary or I can’t. Whichever comes first.

INYMI – The Morgan Community Association (MoCA) has postponed their meeting to Wednesday, January 22, 2020. The meeting will be held at The Kenney, 7125 Fauntleroy Way SW starting at 7pm. And, I want to personally add that it is a well known fact that Mat McBride contributes immensely to the value of any civic group that has the fortune to know him. Mat rocks! & West Seattle benefits!Deb Barker, PresidentMorgan Community Association (MoCA)
