WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Tree thief, and 2 other notes

West Seattle Crime Watch miscellany tonight:

TREE THIEF: Got a call this evening from a Genesee Hill resident whose out-of-town visitors had a rude surprise. They bought a tree to take to Olympia and left it tied atop their car in the driveway overnight. This morning … no tree. Their saddened host wanted to warn everyone about this Grinchy theft.

TWO NOTES: We received a LOT of tips/questions about a full-code SPD response headed northbound around 6 pm. First – we wanted to thank everyone for the tips (text/voice 206-293-6302 any time) as that’s often how we get first word of something. But this time, we heard the dispatch, and as we told everyone who messaged us – it was called in as a possible burglary, west of The Junction, but turned out to be a a false alarm…. Right after that, an incident in The Junction was NOT a false alarm – a shoplifting suspect was caught and arrested near Junction TrueValue at 44th/Edmunds. No other details.

Maybe stealing a christmas tree is what porch pirates with offspring do.  They steal a tree so they can put the stolen gifts under it.  So kiddies: If you asked mom and dad for a Nintendo Switch and you get an Instant Pot pressure cooker (#1 seller at Amazon) for christmas this year,  you know your parents are porch pirates.

stealing is wrong no matter when or what circumstances and i hope that these people are brought to justice for taking from this family.but also it sounds like your making fun of people who end up doing this sort of thing to make ends meet for their kids and that is also wrong and sad. bad taste joke in my opinion

I thought it was hilarious, but I have a very sardonic disposition.

Eric, I love your humor.  Keep it coming.  Some of us would rather be amused than offended.

well, if times ever end up getting tough for you all and you have to struggle to make ends meet for your kids, then we should remeber its all just a big joke and laugh at you then

I am only using Amazon lockers and sending gifts to my work this year and buying local. Disheartening that we have so many thieves in West Seattle now. Between these porch thefts, and what seems to be an increase in street and shop thefts, I am sad about the state of integrity.

Yes if it is not locked up, or inside they will take it.  I have even heard people say that they have seen people dig up plants, cut down small trees that are in their yards.  Nothing is safe anymore.  I gave my sister a cement dog that had a basket in his mouth and planted flowers in it.  She came out the next day to water it and the whole thing was gone.  We can’t even have nice things anymore due to the thief’s.

Ba humbug to all the thieves out there, you have not been good and I hope you are sitting in jail missing out on all the festivities.

well, if times ever end up getting tough for you all and you have to struggle to make ends meet for your kids, then we should NEVER STEAL FROM OTHERS AND BE A GOOD ROLE MODEL for your kids!
