DEVELOPMENT: Date set for 8854 Delridge Way SW’s return to Design Review Board

(Rendering from September’s review, by Sazei Design Group)

Another Delridge Way redevelopment project is continuing to progress through the city system – the Southwest Design Review Board‘s calendar has just been updated with its first scheduled project review of the new year, 8854 Delridge Way SW, 6:30 pm January 23, 2020, at the Senior Center of West Seattle (4217 SW Oregon). This is the now-vacant site where a burned-out former auto shop has already been demolished; the project is now described as ” a 4-story apartment building with 18 small efficiency dwelling units, 14 apartments (32 units total), and office space. Parking for 14 vehicles proposed.” The project has been before the board twice; in September (WSB coverage here), the SWDRB decided it needed to return for a third meeting, so that’s what this will be.

Yikes, are they bloods?  What kind of sloppy Sketchup rendering is this? I mean, how much better would that mediocre design look in black and white?  There’s actually some solid and occasionally creative architecture happening in this kind of building on Delridge but this is ugly in an unnecessary way!

This is way nicer than what’s currently there and in keeping with the look of the other buildings being built in the area.  Clearly it’s a rough cut-and-paste onto the intersection (see where the sidewalk lines up with the street) and not a full rendering of the final product (which they’ll have at meetings later in the process).  I don’t find it offensive at all, even in its early form.  Looking forward to seeing that lot built up.

What’s there now is an abandoned automotive repair business.  The lot has a temporary chain link chain and vegitatio growing everywhere it can find soil.Unfortunately this architecture style seems to be the West Seattle flavor.  I agree that it’s much better than what’s there now.

It’s great to see this corner activated with housing and retail instead of a storage unit. Slowly but surely the SoDel (yeah just made that up – ha!) is turning around. A few other nice projects in the works too. Cool stuff. Thanks for all the updates.

Sorry, comment time is over.
