WEST SEATTLE ART: New signal-box portrait, different artist

(WSB photos)

That’s the newest signal-box portrait in West Seattle – local-raised Hollywood legend Frances Farmer, on the California/Alaska corner outside Easy Street Records. This time, the artist is Son Duong, who painted the box today:

He told WSB that the plan had been in the works for a few weeks, and today was the day he came down from his home base in Monroe to do the painting. He has another portrait outside of Easy Street, this one of Chris Cornell:

Inside Easy Street there’s another Frances Farmer tribute, as reported here in 2016.

Her story is linked above (https://www.historylink.org/File/5058)
She’s buried in Indianapolis. Family move to WS when she was a little girl. She graduated from WSHS.

I would like to see from either artist a picture of when our Japanese Americans were interned…something that should NEVER happen again.

A good lowrider mural or Seattle hip hop mural — maybe Kid Sensation w/ a  kitted big body Benz (beats from the trunk), or Sir Mix-a-Lot on Broadway with the posse shadowed out.Whoever/whatever he murals, that man is A1 talent.

There is a signal box with Sir Mix a lot on 35th.

    • ~Hockeywitch~ August 15, 2019 (7:46 pm)

Was also going to mention Mix on 35th… across the Neighborcare/Library.

Personally, i’d like an electrical box and grid that doesn’t crap out so often. But as long as it looks pretty, I guess that will suffice.

    • WSB August 15, 2019 (4:07 pm)

These are boxes that control traffic signals, not the electricity grid/supply.

  • ttt August 15, 2019 (3:46 pm)

I love the Chris Cornell painting. I am hoping they never change it. I also love all the signal box paintings. I love that we have a lot of art in WS!

Sorry, comment time is over.
