TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Thursday watch; pm bus reroutes

(SDOT MAP with travel times/ Is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE/ West Seattle-relevant traffic cams HERE)

7:06 AM: Good morning!

SEAHAWKS TONIGHT = BUS REROUTES: 7 pm home preseason game vs. Denver. So Metro says southbound buses will be routed off 1st Avenue S., 4 pm-8 pm. Here are the details (PDF).

NO WATER TAXI SERVICE THIS WEEK: The week without service on the West Seattle and Vashon Water Taxi routes continues, because of the downtown dock move. Route 773 and Route 775 shuttles are still running.

I have to chuckle. The Metro re-route announcement must have everyone so excited that the web server can’t handle the load. ;-)I’m sure the evening commute will be much better!

And you would think they’d think about this EVERY night!

I heard the buzz-buzz of the Metro alert just as I got home last night, but I wasn’t wearing my glasses. I thought, “this is kinda late to tell me about the slow traffic”. Only later did  I realize it was an alert for today. Huzzah. Funny, because I missed an activity last night due to the slow bus ride and tonight I am staying downtown late and don’t care about the traffic.

Bus trip on the 21x was the fastest it’s been in weeks due to the reroute. For the love of god I wish they’d keep it.

I’ll be publishing this separately in a bit but KC Executive Dow Constantine issued a statement this afternoon indicating that might be an option after all…

Part of that reroute involved the 116 stopping at 3rd and Cherry after driving by 3rd and Columbia and then not waiting for riders to be able to get there before driving away. Unfortunately that was the last 116 of the day. I’m pretty sure this had something to do with the Metro employees out there at the regular stop who were directing buses and had all the passengers moving from one bus to another bus, then reloading that other bus with new passengers. The whole thing was a disaster with the same 3 buses blocking the 3rd and Columbia stop for a good 10 minutes. Buses were half full at best and leaving. I have sent in a complaint to metro about it but it was just a mess. I wish they would just get the SOVs off 3rd when they aren’t supposed to be there (I counted at least 10 in a 3 block walk without even looking for them), put traffic enforcement/control officers at the locations where the buses leaving the bus only zone have to rejoin regular traffic, and stop the metro buses from taking up space in the right lane when they are not coming to a stop on 3rd. If they were to do this it would speed the whole thing up dramatically.
