UPDATE: Police search in Morgan Junction

9:10 PM: Thanks for the tips. A police search is under way in Morgan Junction. We’re headed that way to find out more.

(Added: WSB photo)

9:17 PM: Police tell us this started as a shoplifting incident at nearby West Seattle Thriftway (WSB sponsor) that turned violent, which turns it into a robbery case.

I was out for a walk at the time, they had about 6 cars and had me stop where I was while they conducted a canine search. That was at 9:55pm at 132nd or 134th and des moines memorial drive. Cop said they had a guy run from them, assuming it was this

No, that’s many miles away and a different jurisdiction at that.

Its rampant in all stores but Rite Aide and Walgreens need to hire security.  The thieves blatantly walk right out the door laughing carrying alcohol. As they know none will stop them.

That’s my Store.  I’m glad they don’t let shoplifters just walk out the door!

    • Sillygoose April 7, 2019 (11:38 am)

Which one? As I’ve watched it happen at both multiple times.  Walgreens middle aged  man walked down makeup isle straight back to beer put a case on his shoulders walked back down makeup isle out the door. I have actually grabbed a teenager at Walgreens who shoved Booze down the front of his pants.  He threw it ran out the door.Rite Aide 30s guy walked past me while in line cashier recognized him as a thief he walked past us with a bottle of booze in his coat she tried to stop him I called 911 he ran across the street laughing as cops drive by. This is just in 2 days it’s been an issue for years. What store again is yours?

“My store”…as in I shop there.  West Seattle Thriftway.  http://www.westseattlethriftway.com/I think it is wrong to enable theft as in your Walgreens and Rite Aid examples.  It is also wrong to enable Illegal drug use and trespass.  I will be voting for the candidate who supports this position…please join me.

Qfc and safe way.  In the Alaska junction all say. There’s nothing we can do about folks stealing.

I dont know what happened this time but I’ve seen shoplifters leave Thriftway bloodied, one of the store mangers will fight you if you try to steal.

Fantastic–I hope the manager doesn’t end up being the one arrested, however. Yes, the shoplifting going on everywhere is obscene. I have seen it twice at the Roxbury Safeway, and a couple more at the Thrifty in question. The last time it happened at the T-Way, I watched two dirtbags leave their shady spot in the alley by the Supplements store. Next thing I know, I see one the same backpacked punks existing the Thrifty (where I was now shopping) without a care in the world, bottle of something under his wing. They were waiting for the C line as I went by 5 min later, laughing to themselves. I wanted to confront them, but as they were 30 years younger and did not give one single sh*t about anything, I kept walking. I hate thieves, and agree that the stores need to do a better job self-policing. I suppose when their losses outweigh the cost of hourly guards, it will happen. In the meantime: MORE POLICE, please!

Just want to point out that it’s nothing new. Decades ago I sold cookies outside grocery stores in West Seattle and quite a few times saw people walk out with cases of beer. Once someone left with a cart full of meat!

While not WS, I was in the SODO Home Depot not too long ago and saw someone come in and brazenly grab a bunch of tide pods and walk right out the garden exit.  Reported it to the manager and you would’ve thought that I was taking him away from something important.  End of the day, we all pay for it, and I will tell you prices here are a lot more than they are in states where they – um – actually enforce criminal statutes.  Again, WS, this is why we can’t have nice things…

      Tell that to Tim Eyman.

      • Chuck April 8, 2019 (3:27 pm)

LOL. Yeah, I do appreciate Eyman trying to keep our tax-drunk city and state in check, but you have him dead to rights there, All, and deservedly so. He stepped in it big time, and no one to blame but himself.

Not WS but the hubby and I were at the Safeway in Burien 148th and 1st Ave and saw this man and women stuffing things into her large purse from a shopping cart then abandon the cart and head for the exit door I said to them very loudly “why don’t you get a job so you don’t have to steal those things” the lady turns around and gives me a look that could kill and walks on out.  SMH It happens everywhere :(

Sorry, comment time is over.
