UPDATE: Helicopter, ground search after gunfire in Highland Park

11:45 PM: If you hear the Guardian One law-enforcement helicopter over Highland Park/Riverview and/or see police on the ground, here’s what the search is about, per radio dispatch: 911 got reports of possible gunfire, heard near 12th/Holden, followed by a potentially related hit and run, and someone seen running eastbound in an alley south of Holden. Guardian One heard the dispatch and offered to help. No injuries reported.

11:57 PM: Though the helicopter has moved on for now, police are blocking part of SW Holden as they investigate.

12:05 AM: A texter sent this photo:

12:10 PM: Police are reopening SW Holden.

I live on this street can confirm there where what sounded like gunshots followed not long after by police sirens and helicopters. Don’t know anything else, I’m staying inside but can hear people in the neighborhood talking (can’t make out what about).

That’s my boyfriend’s car. We were at home and heard the gunshots. Called 911 and stayed inside. Didn’t think to go check on his car. Thankfully went outside when heard a tow truck so he got the info he needed. Wild times.

I live on Holden and was woken up by a series of loud bangs that I’m now realizing must have been the gunshots. I’m so glad that no one was hurt.

We were cleaning up from Corner Bar at HPIC when we heard the gunshots. I think it was 3-5 shots maybe. Two people outside in our parking lot saw a dark car drive by (East on Holden) and saw the flash of the gunshots. That dark car appeared to try to take the right on 11th and slammed straight into a parked car. That’s the first scene the cops arrived to. They came in to HPIC and got a statement from one of our witnesses. I hope no one was hurt, and feel very fortunate that the gunshots weren’t in the direction of the club because we had about 12 people of our community still there.

Lisa Herbold  mentioned the repeat offenders report in her weekly newsletter and then said she would “commit to bring urgency to developing solutions.” Yet, the violence in Highland Park has only increased under her tenure! This shooting may have nothing to do with prolific offenders, but it illustrates the lawlessness that has taken hold in the south-east region of West Seattle. Why can’t our city “leaders” actually IMPLEMENT an action plan for this area?!?! For Christ’s sake, Lisa Herbold owns a house and supposedly even lives in Highland Park! Council members are not just legislators, but elected district relresentatives who are supposed to advocate for resources and attention to issues in the neighborhoods they represent. Yet the issues in South Delridge and Highland Park are only getting worse. I just pray that a bullet doesn’t hit me or my children while we are sleeping in our beds at night. How are we supposed to feel SECURE if our own homes and vehicles aren’t SAFE from the bullets?!?!

For Christ’s sake, Lisa Herbold owns a house and supposedly even lives in Highland Park”What do you even mean by this?We live so close to the airport. I hope a plane doesn’t crash into my house.Wheeee! I’ve lived in HP for 20 years, right across the street from Lisa the whole time, it’s definitely an improved place from 20 years ago, as is the city in general.  We just live in a hyper local atmosphere where every bad incident is super hyped as the end times.

Thanks for the further info Nicole-We didn’t hear it but saw the damaged cars this morning. Such a bummer for all the car owners. Thank goodness no one got hurt.

@Ellen the Southwest precinct has over 20 vacant officer positions that arent being filled. This city needs to take a step back on development and wasted transit taxes and take care of our officers.  They should be in bullet proof vehicles, better body armor, better weapons along with this city passing outdated laws that dont allow these criminals to continually be released.  3 strikes my ass 1 strike your gone.

Any updates? Would like to know if any arrests were made.

    • WSB April 8, 2019 (12:30 pm)

Checked in with police. No arrests.

4 cars total damaged. A dozen gun shots fired. A helicopter fly by and not one arrest.

Sorry, comment time is over.
