WEATHER/TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Snowy Thursday morning

(SDOT MAP with travel times/ Is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE/ West Seattle-relevant traffic cams HERE)

6:16 AM: Good morning! Some snow on the ground where we are. How about you?

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: The Weather Service has one in effect until noon.
SCHOOLS: Seattle Public Schools on timeOur Lady of Guadalupe 1 hour late
RIDE2: Canceled for the rest of the morning

6:37 AM: No snow-related trouble or changes to report. Just the advice to take extra time when you head out! … If you’re wondering about schools, no word on that front so far either. Highline Public Schools south of us has made a point to say it’s planning to open on time.

6:47 AM: Some scattered Metro changes are starting to come in – for example, Route 128, which serves West Seattle too, is on snow routing “in the Tukwila, Park Lake, and White Center areas due to road conditions.”

6:57 AM: First school delay in – Our Lady of Guadalupe will start an hour late, 9:15 am dropoff. … Snow in multiple areas of West Seattle, though NOT everywhere in the city. Photo from Michele in Highland Park:

7:12 AM: Seattle Public Schools has just reaffirmed, it’s on time.

7:24 AM: Where we are – just over 300′ – even the side-street surface is no longer snow-covered, so this seems to be more like the typical short-lived Seattle snow than what we all experienced in February. Nonetheless, be extra careful, since it’s still likely to be slick, especially as you get to your bus/car/etc. … Just went out to check – photo added. Lightly raining; can hear the snow melting.

7:39 AM: New Metro alert about snow routing – ALL buses in this area. A texter also says Route 125 is definitely snow-routing so “there may be some real unhappy people up the hill.” Speaking of hills:

Thanks to @janeydangerous for tweeting that photo of the SW Genesee hill east of Avalon.

8:22 AM: The melt continues. Major roads are bare and wet.

8:43 AM: Metro just sent an alert (and tweet) that Ride2 is canceled in West Seattle for the rest of the morning.

8:56 AM: Metro says the C Line is back to regular routing … If you’re just headed out onto the eastbound bridge, heads-up – there’s a report of wires down on the 1st Avenue S. exit ramp.

9:07 AM: The SDOT camera on that ramp shows the right lane currently blocked.

9:13 AM: The entire 1st S. offramp is now closed.

9:40 AM: Metro has resumed regular routing.

10:04 AM: The 1st Avenue S. ramp situation is, according to scanner traffic, also affecting surface Spokane on the eastbound side. City Light has to do pole work to resolve the situation.

  • Mike March 7, 2019 (6:26 am)

So, will SPS make a call to delay school or are they still sleeping?

  • Stuart March 7, 2019 (6:27 am)

Sticking on roads at California and Hudson just south of junction

  • Bunnyfer March 7, 2019 (6:32 am)

Looks like this caught SDOT off guard. It’s sticking to 35th as well – looks like an inch or so. Are busses chained? Schools on schedule?

    • WSB March 7, 2019 (6:41 am)

No changes reported so far. We’re monitoring all weather/traffic/schools info sources closely and will update with any changes.

Snowing and snow in the ground near Riverview Park. My household is feeling perplexed as to why there is no school delay…is this just a West Seattle snow storm?

  • SD March 7, 2019 (6:35 am)

Snow sticking on road 39th and 107th in Arbor Heights

  • Dr March 7, 2019 (6:45 am)

Cars driving normally on delridge (although there is snow on the road) side streets are covered with snow.

  • AH Snowy Folks March 7, 2019 (6:50 am)

Wow, we already have a inch sticking to our hilly road – 98th in north Arbor Heights.  School today???  Delays???

    • WSB March 7, 2019 (6:54 am)

Nothing announced so far by anyone aside from Highline (south of us) saying it’s NOT delaying.

      • WSB March 7, 2019 (7:01 am)

And that said, our FIRST school-delay announcement, added above – OLG one hour late.

      • Nicole March 7, 2019 (7:06 am)

Highline announced a two hour delay

        • WSB March 7, 2019 (7:18 am)

Highline COLLEGE is delayed but Highline PUBLIC SCHOOLS has reiterated via Twitter and its website that it’s on time. I just checked again…

Sticking on the grass and concrete walkway, S. Delridge. I feel really bad for everyone that needs to commute and has other obligations where they *must* go out in this. Fortunately, I got my errands done over the past few days and today and tomorrow have been planned stay-at-home-and-rest days. I was pretty much homebound during last month’s snow, as I have mobility and other health issues and just can’t risk a fall. I am *so* done with this. —-Mike

The 21s on 35th are MIA again.  At least three of them should have arrived by now.

  • Coffeedude March 7, 2019 (7:09 am)

My bus driver just said all buses are on snow routes

    • momof3boys March 7, 2019 (7:28 am)

once again Metro gets a F in communication!  so glad I carpool on the way into work, it’s been bad enough getting a spot on a C coming home.

    • newnative March 7, 2019 (7:35 am)

They are incorrect. It wasn’t in the metro alerts and none of the buses I have seen/ridden are on snow routes or wearing chains. Only the reported 128.

      • newnative March 7, 2019 (7:50 am)

Just got the metro alert about snow routes for south Seattle. Got into downtown just fine on the 56. No snow here.

    • Kyle March 7, 2019 (7:48 am)

My 125 is on a snow route. It was announced halfway through the route, after it was 15 minutes late to my stop.

  • Miles March 7, 2019 (7:23 am)

Just took my wife 45 minutes to get from 35th & Roxbury to just getting on Hwy99….big fun!

  • henrythepainter March 7, 2019 (7:32 am)

No snow  by  the ferry  dock ,  i’m  painting  in vashon  today

  • Jay March 7, 2019 (7:42 am)

    I just caught a 125 on snow route…

  • JasonG March 7, 2019 (7:46 am)

About 45min from Junction to SLU on the C line at 650am (jam-packed, SRO), a bit of sticking slush on the roads in Junction but just wet downtown.

  • JEM March 7, 2019 (8:30 am)

There were two 21X stuck in Arbor Heights at 44th when I left the house. Probably contributed to Metro switching to snow routes.

  • Kristina March 7, 2019 (8:58 am)

A snowplow came along California Ave at 6:20 when I was at the light at Erskine – I was impressed! My commute to Bellevue was fine at that hour, though I went a little slower, but I had to go up a hill to get to my office and my tires slipped. Several of my colleagues still aren’t at work because they got stuck!

    • WSB March 7, 2019 (9:02 am)

The winter-weather-response SDOT map suggests they’ve been busy this morning:

      • Calires March 7, 2019 (9:36 am)

I saw a snow plow headed north on California/Charlestown at ~1 a.m. and thought it odd because I hadn’t been paying attention to the weather forecast.

  • ARPigeonPoint March 7, 2019 (9:40 am)

Unrelated to the snow, but is there a reason the bus drivers refuse to use the bus only lane at Dearborn?

  • Peter March 7, 2019 (9:55 am)

An inch of snow and the 21X wasn’t running at all this morning, with no announcement of cancellations, and the 21 finally came after a couple of no-shows. This is beyond frustrating. Metro gets a hard F on their performance and communication.

Sorry, comment time is over.
