UPDATE: Seattle Fire ‘full response’ for 9000 block of 17th SW, downsized

(Added: WSB photo)

3:35 PM: A big Seattle Fire response is headed to a possible house fire in the 9000 block of 17th SW. Updates to come.

3:41 PM: SFD says the response is being downsized as firefighters investigate “light smoke coming from occupant’s fireplace.”

3:48 PM: Now they’re sending Ladder 11 back to check out “possible extension” of the problem. Our crew at the scene, meantime, has been told it was a chimney fire.

3:59 PM: Engine 11 and Ladder 11 firefighters are still investigating to be sure the fire didn’t spread beyond the chimney.

IF the address on the SFD Real Time 911 Log is correct, on both occurrences as the actual location of each incident, L11 was dispatched to that same location as “Investigate, Out Of Service” at 12:52 this afternoon.—Mike

Also, it’s not unusual to smell smoke in this neighborhood, but I had my kitchen window open from about 11:00 am until, actually, probably around the time of that earlier L11 call. I noticed a strong smell of smoke, and although for the smell to be rather strong is not unusual, there seemed to be something different about this. I thought maybe a neighbor was burning a different kind of wood or something. —Mike

Our block’s notorious house for several years. Called police and fire the first time earlier today due to smoke coming out of the chimney and only police came out without a fire crew. After briefly looking over the alley fence, they left. A few hours later, a neighbor called again and the fire crew did finally come out.

Looks like a fairly long list of violations/complaints in the past few years. But no redevelopment plans on record, which seems unusual for that somewhat rapidly redeveloping area.

@ WSB – that property has gotten attention from SPD’s Community Police Team, SDCI, and the City Attorney all to no avail. The owner lives offsite. She allows her brother to live on the property rather than sell it. Over many years, neighbors have witnessed numerous squatters, drug use (i.e., shooting up in the front yard), drug dealing, prostitution, animal abuse, burning items in a metal drum in the backyard, rats, people defecating in the yard, piles of garbage, additions built onto the property with code violations, etc. Just to name a few!

Anyone know what happened on 26th, south of Juneau?  I saw L11 and an EMT headed that way.

There was a low-level medical call (aid response) logged earlier at a private residence in the 5900 block of 26th SW.

Thank goodness everyone is safe and they haven’t been displaced. We had a house fire when I was a kid. Worst thing ever! It’s good the owner lets her brother live there. What a good sister. Maybe he has issues. But, who doesn’t.

Despite issues, most people do not allow prostitution on their property. This person needs help, not enablement.
