With all these swim lesson cancellations, I wonder if the Y provides partial refunds.

Any updates on SPS for school plans tomorrow?

    • WSB February 5, 2019 (4:17 pm)

Not so far – their newest messaging is still today’s closure.

      • B February 5, 2019 (4:57 pm)

        Thank you!

        • E February 5, 2019 (6:41 pm)

Don’t worry!  You’ll get the same text, call and email the blog is going to get! 😖😂

          • WSB February 5, 2019 (6:54 pm)

Media actually don’t get texts or calls – except those who also happen to be SPS parents/guardians. (It’s been a few years since our kid graduated, so we’re not in that group any more.) But the order in which the district sends out messaging seems to vary. In one case this week, the superintendent’s Twitter account sent the announcement 20 minutes before the general SPS twitter account. – TR

Seattle Public Schools will start 2 hours late and will still get out an hour and 15 early for Wednesday early release schedule!

    • S. February 5, 2019 (7:46 pm)

It’s two hours late, at least right now.

      • Jason February 5, 2019 (7:56 pm)

WTH? 2 hour delay makes zero sense for tomorrow. The forecast indicates temperatures won’t even reach freezing until noon. Why bother?

  • B February 5, 2019 (4:02 pm)

Any update on SPS for school tomorrow?

  • Jon Wright February 5, 2019 (4:21 pm)

Yes, the Y does provide prorated refunds.

  • MBP February 5, 2019 (5:35 pm)

    Any update on garbage pickup?

    • WSB February 5, 2019 (5:47 pm)

It was canceled yesterday and today, per the updates we linked each morning. This morning:
      http://atyourservice.seattle.gov/2019/02/05/due-to-road-conditions-no-solid-waste-collection-feb-5/

So, so far, Tuesday customers should be picked up tomorrow, rest of the week slides a day, Monday customers will be picked up next Monday.

      • Mindy February 5, 2019 (7:51 pm)

So we are Monday pick up. We get skipped all together? That doesn’t seem fair. My Garbage is full all ready.

        • AMD February 5, 2019 (9:32 pm)

You can put out double the amount next week for no additional charge.

  • Pam February 5, 2019 (6:13 pm)

Vashon School District on 2.5 hour delay.

    • WSB February 5, 2019 (6:20 pm)

      Thank you!

  • ❄️ February 5, 2019 (6:18 pm)

Why are public schools getting a 2 hour delay? And how come private schools like hope lutheran start at normal time

    • WSB February 5, 2019 (6:20 pm)

Well, a one-location campus can rather easily assess conditions, while a district with dozens of locations has to take varying conditions into account.

  • Bus rider February 5, 2019 (6:44 pm)

My Metro bus got on Hwy 99 at the new Dearborn ramp for the first time. It helped to have fewer cars on 1st Ave, but I like this commute.

SPS just announced a 2-hr late start

  • A February 5, 2019 (7:41 pm)

Seattle is 2 hour delayed tomorrow

  • Student February 5, 2019 (7:41 pm)

SPS is delayed by 2 hours

  • Hannah February 5, 2019 (7:43 pm)

According to the forecast for Tuesday night, they said the snow could freeze due to the cold temperatures around 25° to 22°. Is that true? Do you think schools still have a possibility of closing last minute?

    • WSB February 5, 2019 (7:50 pm)

Never say never – but the WS arterials look pretty good. However, keep in mind other parts of the city factor into the decisionmaking too.

  • 935 February 5, 2019 (8:37 pm)

If no one has heard yet, SPS has a 2hr delay…End sarcasm

  • quinkygirl February 5, 2019 (9:13 pm)

Is it icey out there? Has any one been on the roads in the last little bit?

  • Casey f. February 5, 2019 (9:17 pm)

Do schools have to make up 2 hour delays? and would they still have an early dismissal at the end of the year?

    • Marianne February 6, 2019 (7:13 am)

Casey F.-SPS students do not make up two hour delays.  I believe they will not have to make up an additional snow days as the ones built into the schedule have now been used.

      • Marianne February 6, 2019 (6:27 pm)

I was wrong.  Extra snow days may have to be made up (from the teachers’ contract)Snow Make-Up Days. At least three snow days shall be scheduled, including the day between
semesters, and the first two days following the last day of school in June. Additional snow
make-up days may be added in June as necessary
I seem to remember the last time this happened, the Superintendent did not make staff/students make up days beyond the built in snow days.

  • HP Resident February 5, 2019 (9:22 pm)

Does anyone in Highland Park know if the 131 ran down 9th later tonight? Metro site says it’s still not servicing this area but I’ve heard the main roads are fine on 9th and HP way. Trying to figure out commute tomorrow. Thank you!

  • Kim February 5, 2019 (11:12 pm)

The sand truck has gone up the icy hill by High Point Elementary several times tonight. Looks like they are serious about getting schools open tomorrow!

  • Wed commuter February 6, 2019 (4:45 am)
