ELECTION 2019: 3 more days to vote, snow or no snow

Tuesday is Election Day, snow or no snow, so if you go out tomorrow, and haven’t voted yet, you might consider a stop at the ballot box or mailbox. Ballots in West Seattle and the rest of the city have only two issues, both Seattle Public Schools levies:

*Seattle School Prop #1 (Operations Levy)
*Seattle School Prop #2 (BEX V Levy)

Prop 1 is a three-year levy, Prop 2 is a six-year levy, and each requires a simple majority to pass. Each link above takes you to official info including pro/con arguments and full measure text; for the school-by-school project list for Prop 2, go here. Voting deadline is 8 pm Tuesday; ballot dropbox locations are here; you can also send you ballot via the US Postal Service, no stamp required.

To give an idea of how much this will cost a home owner the first year.  If you have a home that King County assessed is worth $650,000 (an approximate median King County assessment value for our area) the first year will be $1267.50, just for these two levies.  The amount would go down the next year and less the next year, unless your home value increases.  Depending on the housing market, you might pay less or more year over year. With that, keep an eye on the sale of homes in your area.  King County assessed our home at more than what two homes larger than ours  are on the market for right now.  The value of homes has dropped nearly $100k in the past year.  You can contest King County assessments so you pay a fair value on taxes, which includes these levies.

Thank you, WSB, for this extremely important reminder

My ballet did not get picked up Saturday!  The sidewalks were cleared on my street and access to my and my neighbors homes was also clear.  Our street is level right off an Arterial, thus not sure why USPS failed to deliver?  Their slogan is to deliver regardless of conditions!

Rain, sleet or snow is not the official slogan for USPS. Someone made up that slogan but I can assure you that is not what they follow. Carriers are instructed to bring mail back if they do not feel safe delivering. I can also tell you that a fair amount of carriers showed up to work yesterday at Westwood station but there was no mail for them to deliver. All of the drivers that bring the mail to the station didn’t come to work so all that was there for the carriers were packages to deliver. I wouldn’t be depending on a carrier to pick up your ballot tomorrow or Tuesday. The conditions are treacherous out there and a lot of carriers aren’t making it in to work so there are many routes down. Some routes will be delivered(unless you are on a hill) and some routes won’t. I hope you are understanding that this is a very difficult time for letter carriers to be working in these conditions and don’t expect consistent delivery or pick up of your mail until conditions improve.

Thankfully the drop box is walkable for me, but how will KC know whether we voted on time.  I can’t imagine they’re going to be able to get to the boxes by end of day Tuesday?  And post marks sounding increasingly sketchy for folks that are using USPS.

      We’ll be checking on that.

I am glad I mailed mine last week.

Sorry, comment time is over.
