New eastbound left-turn signal installed at Delridge/Andover

Thanks to Pigeon Point’s Pete Spalding for the photo and word of SDOT work at Delridge/Andover today. We confirmed with SDOT’s Dawn Schellenberg that they were installing a turn signal for people turning east onto Andover from Delridge: “The Delridge/Andover intersection was identified through our Bike and Ped Safety Assessment as a priority location. We evaluated the location in 2016 and determined a protected left-turn phase was warranted to reduce potential vehicle and bicycle; and vehicle and vehicle collisions. This Vision Zero project was completed today.”

This was much needed. I’m hoping it helps make it easier to get to Pigeon Pint during heavy traffic. Yay!

The next one needs to be the north and southbound lights at 16th Ave SW & SW Roxbury Street… Coming from the south side of Roxbury crossing Roxbury can turn into a 20+ minute wait, all because of one or two people taking a left turn at that light. Not to include the people that take that left turn(I always turn one block prior or find another way around if possible.)

16th and Roxbury absolutely need an arrow. If I remember i always cut over to 15th because that intersection is so bad.

I grew up on pigeon hill used to get my hair cuts on the corner of Andover and Delridge,Used to go to Bethlehem steel union hall on Christmas and get gifts that was on the corner of 23rd and Andover the street I grew up on ,Between 23rd and Delridge was the Kingdom hall went there on Sundays, Sold the family home on 23rd a couple years ago for basically a song 2250,000 dollars. If I could have bought my brother out I most likely would still be there. Good memories living there. There used to be a cabinet making place right on the corner then the barber shop and next to that was a sign making shop, I used to stand out side and watch the owner hand paint signs of all sizes. I am glad they finally put that sign in I witnessed deaths at that intersection over the years 1965 untill I moved out in 1976.

Sorry, comment time is over.
