West Seattle’s Leslie Harris to serve 2nd year as School Board president

At last night’s Seattle Public Schools Board of Directors meeting, the board chose its leadership for the next year. Leslie Harris, the Highland Park resident who represents West Seattle and South Park, is continuing as board president. She was first elected to the board in 2015, became its vice president in 2016, then president in 2017. Rick Burke will continue as vice president, with Zachary DeWolf the board executive committee’s new member-at-large.

In my opinion she’s been a great public servant. Amazing actually!

Congratulations, Les!  It’s hard work, but your contributions to SPS are greatly appreciated.  Keep pushing! Susan and Mike

I have emailed her 3 times and never received even an auto-reply.  We deserve better.

Did you know that she’d paid something like $5000 for the entire years service (I’m not forgetting a zero).  This is basically a volunteer job.   If you want a response from her go to one of her monthly meet and greets at the library.

Actually not. She should reply emails. Not everyone can attend her meetings (I do). I appreciate Leslie and in my experience she has been very responsive so I am not sure why she is not replying to you Curtis. You can try cc’ing the email for the board to ensure someone receives the message and responds. Here:board@seattleschools.org

One thing I do not understand is why she does not come and visit the schools.  How does she really know what is going on in the schools?  Does she ever visit school in west Seattle? I have never seen a school board member visit the school where I work.

Has your school invited her to visit? Have there been public events at which she might have participated? We’ve seen her at multiple of the latter. She also has firsthand knowledge from her daughter having gone through local schools, graduating just a few years ago.

Sorry, comment time is over.
