FOLLOWUP: 13 sea-lion deaths now blamed on ‘acute trauma … from human interaction’

One week after two California sea lions were necropsied at Don Armeni Boat Ramp, and one day after another was buried on the shore near Seacrest, we have an update: 13 sea-lion deaths in the region – not just West Seattle – blamed on “acute trauma … from human interaction.” That’s from an update on the Seal Sitters Marine Stranding Network website, which says state and federal authorities continue to investigate. Read the update in its entirety by going here.

I’m curious as to whether ballistic forensics could determine if all of these sea lions were killed with the same gun.

That is the strangest wording for “someone shot them” I’ve ever heard. Is there a reason to dance around the truth here?

They haven’t all been confirmed as shot – follow the link to the Seal Sitters post.

That’s my guess. See who’s fishing this area at time sea lions shot and go from there… Spend a lot of time at my moorage on Harbor Island and see a lot of interesting things during netting seasons…

Just saw a large dead mammal floating north toward duwamish head. Sea lion or porpoise or small whale?

Logically: Suspect the Salmon fisherman .

Maybe one of the strategies to save the whales?  Anyone remember long time ago when the Ballard Locks was the site of all sorts of attempts to regulate the sea lions ?  How do they control the locks now with regard to that issue?Competing interests, can’t save everything? http://www.cnn.com/EARTH/9804/08/trout.survival/https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/A-Death-Sentence-for-Greedy-Sea-Lions-Extreme-3044780.php
