From the ‘in case you were wondering too’ file: The 7-11 sidewalk saga

Several readers have asked when the sidewalk in front of the 4312 SW Admiral Way 7-11 – missing for many weeks – will be restored. We took the question to SDOT, whose spokesperson LeAnne Nelson looked into it and replied:

The 7-11 hired contractors to repair the sidewalk, but they removed the sidewalk without any Street Use permits, so they were issued a citation and required to submit a traffic control plan and field review; that’s due to the amount of sidewalk removed. They were not allowed to work until both were approved, which happened last week, I’m told. Our inspector has called the contractor to ask for a completion timeline.

We will check back on that if there’s no work-crew sighting at the site soon.

You can’t do anything without paying the City a fee or three.

As it should be…if ye could freely be with no fee it would be a catastrophe…you see. It’s for safety.

Right, requiring that contractors are responsible for ensuring public health and safety is government overreach. Someone has to spend time reviewing those traffic control plans; do you work for free?

I bet you would be the first one to hop on this blog and bitch if you twisted your ankle, fell into a trench, or got smacked upside the head with an excavator bucket while walking through an uncontrolled construction site.

I never stated that paying those fees was wrong or a burden, in fact I happen to be a payed recipient of those fees in a round a bout way so I’m all for them, and public safety.

Gravel is better than the condition of many West Seattle sidewalks for safe walking.

Yeah, no kidding! I almost broke a toe a few years ago on a sidewalk that was all out of shape from tree roots pushing it up.

Any info on the sidewalk work that’s randomly appeared on Sylvan Way. First next to Tug Inn and now next to the cemetery. Just curious, seemed kind of random, especially the design choice around Tug/across from Home Depot.

Sorry, comment time is over.
