West Seattle Saturday: SPF30 at Alki; Delridge Day; ‘Wrinkle in Time’ @ WS Outdoor Movies; community-giving chances; more!

(Pelagic Cormorant, photographed by Mark Wangerin)

Saturday is here, and rain or shine, so is some big fun! Don’t forget the NB I-5 traffic alert. And here are other reasons to stay on the peninsula:

LOW TIDE, WITH SIGN-LANGUAGE INTERPRETATION: Seattle Aquarium volunteer beach naturalists are out today, 10 am-1 pm, at Constellation Park (63rd SW/Beach Drive SW) and at Lincoln Park (8011 Fauntleroy Way SW), where sign-language interpretation will be available today. Low tide is -2.9 feet at 11:22 am.)

BENEFIT BAKE SALE AND PET-ITEM DONATION DRIVE: Gwen and Muriel do this every year for the Seattle Humane Society:

Delicious cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and more! They are also collecting donations for the Humane Society including cat or dog food (wet or dry), animal toys, or new scratching posts. Cash and check donations are very welcome.

10 am-3 pm. (36th SW/SW Dakota)

DELRIDGE TRIANGLE CLEANUP, WITH FREE FOOD: First 20 volunteers to show up for this morning’s Delridge Triangle cleanup get treated to free lunch at nearby Boss Drive-In! 10 am – details are in our calendar listing. (18th/Barton)

DELRIDGE DAY: 11 am-3 pm at Delridge Community Center Park, it’s the annual community-organized festival for eastern West Seattle! Here’s our preview; here’s the schedule of music and performances. (Delridge/Genesee/26th SW)

SPF30 AT ALKI BEACH: Sub Pop Records‘ mega-music 30th-birthday party at Alki is today/tonight, noon-10 pm, free admission, four stages – one on each side of the Bathhouse, one at 57th/Alki, one at Alki Playfield. After this map, the key infolinks from our many previews:

Transportation/transit/parking/road closures
Music schedule
Vendors/nonprofits/food trucks
Followups including answers to questions about closures, etc.
KEXP‘s video and audio streaming

We’ll be on site throughout with ongoing coverage, so keep checking back on WSB (and our Twitter feed too).

FASHION SHOW PRESENTED BY UNIFIED OUTREACH: 5 pm dinner and fashion show at West Seattle Christian Church‘s Activity Center in The Junction – details in our calendar listing. Free! (4400 42nd SW)

WEST SEATTLE OUTDOOR MOVIES: “A Wrinkle in Time” is onscreen tonight in this week’s West Seattle Outdoor Movies presentation outside the West Seattle YMCA (WSB sponsor).

Since the day is starting with an iffy forecast, a rainout is possible, and we’ll update IF organizers decide to postpone the movie. Otherwise, gates open 6:30 pm in the parking lot on the southwest side of the Y; movie’s at dusk – around 8:45; bring your own chair/blanket. The West Seattle Timebank is tonight’s raffle beneficiary; the Y sells and benefits from concessions. (3622 SW Snoqualmie)

‘LEGALLY BLONDE, THE MUSICAL’: 7:30 pm at the West Seattle High School Theater, go see Twelfth Night Productions perform the musical version of the hit movie. Ticket info is in our calendar listing. (3000 California SW)
